Here’s what CTV wants you to believe: Mark Carney, a guy who’s never actually run in a federal election, is more “trustworthy” than Pierre Poilievre when it comes to keeping campaign promises. Sounds compelling, right? Until you squint a bit.

But here’s the problem:
This whole trust thing? It’s not based on tracking actual behaviour. It’s based on vibes. And guess who’s had the better PR lately in CTV’s coverage? (Hint: It’s not Pierre.) If you keep portraying one guy as a steady technocrat and the other as an angry populist, the survey’s going to reflect that narrative, not lived reality.

Now let’s talk receipts. Pierre Poilievre has a track record. Agree with him or not, the man has done what he said he’d do for two decades:
•Said he’d push for balanced budgets. Did it in Harper’s Cabinet.
•Said he’d take on gatekeepers. Been doing it since before “gatekeeper” was cool.
•Said he wouldn’t take taxpayer-funded housing. Didn’t.
•Promised to scrap the carbon tax. Still hammering it.
•Advocated for sound money? Check his 2005 speeches—he hasn’t budged.

Meanwhile, Mark Carney’s campaign promise scorecard is… a blank slate. You can’t break promises if you’ve never had to keep any. That’s not a trust metric—it’s just a clean whiteboard.

And don’t even get me started on that “Canada-U.S. tensions help the Liberals” bit. That’s not analysis. That’s spinning a diplomatic headache into a branding opportunity.

Reframe:
This isn’t about who people trust—it’s about who the media tells them to trust. Poilievre’s sin? He doesn’t play nice with the legacy media. And now we’re supposed to believe a banker-turned-politician with a WHO endorsement is Mr. Integrity because a poll with a 2.8% margin of error says so?

Actionable thought:
Trust isn’t something you measure in polls. You measure it in consistency. And if Canadians want a leader who says what he means—and does what he says—they’d be better off watching Poilievre’s record, not CTV’s headlines.
