The illegal cigarette mafia and illegal cigarette trade remain a measurable economic cancer, stealing nearly Rs. 400 billion in taxes yearly. Their actual trade could reach approximately Rs. 1,000 billion.

@GovtofPakistan should continue uncompromising enforcement, reject every form of political pressure, and hold illegal manufacturers, traders, and promoters answerable under law.

Nobody knows where this money goes. It could finance terror and create instability by design, because illegal economies depend upon weak and unsettled institutions.

Document Sales, Recover Taxes

Pakistan loses when major sectors hide real sales. Petroleum, oils and lubricants, real estate, tobacco and cigarettes, sugar, tea, and pharma must not be allowed to operate through undocumented channels and illegal networks.

The government should keep working for a fair economy where every rupee of due tax is reported.
