Writer on outer & inner space. Words in @AeroAmMag, @Independent, @lucidnewssite, @inversedotcom, @ArcDigi, @Slate @Popsci, et al. He/Him. Opinions mine.
@realDarkElation@whstancil I have yet to see any evidence, and there likely isn't any, to definitively prove that Martin wasn't acting in what he thought was self-defense from a creep who was harassing him. Survivor got to tell the story and claim ground held.
@MimeticPrince@parakeetnebula The A = A stuff, for instance. It's an insistence on naive realism that's inconsistent with what we know of the brain, but it's a great shortcut if you want to avoid experiments and make claims about the world based solely on thought experiments.
@DKThomp ... and anyone who has directly experience disability not of their own making, their own or someone close, will push back on this, quite rightly. And online dynamics feedback, influence coverage, etc.
@DKThomp when ppl fortunate enough to be free of autoimmune disorders or disabling injuries get into this stuff, they cling to narratives that give them more agency over their health. And of course the loudest voices there get judgy & are skeptical of those who can't do the thing ...
This literally shut me down. I used to get clients who want to make toys because they visited my site for blog posts and information.
Now they don't need to. Google scraped my content and regurgitates it at the top of the search.
Zero visitors now. No clients.
This. Google search in the aughts was orders of magnitude better and easier than any of the AI slop being pushed right now. They want us to feel like AI is magic, but they already had it bottled, and tossed it away.
@dieworkwear It should be striking, but by now is entirely expected, that the reactionaries making these types of comments also support a guy who famously covers everything in his living spaces in gold leaf...
Yes.
Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking.
Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.
@ThePurgeCafe@RachelZader@judge_sneed Cocaine is schedule II and ketamine is schedule III, but doing bumps of either off your desk without a prescription is illegal and contrary to the Drug-Free Workplace Act that applies to federal contractors.
Just a reminder that the West destroyed Iran’s progressive democracy in 1953, deposing a leader beloved of the people, and installed a dictatorship in his place. The US and UK have been terrorising that country for as long as any of us have been alive. It’s sick.
@roryisconfused Not to undercut the brilliance of the songwriting, but as a guitar player who has begun dabbling with keys, I think it's much easier to stumble on to something very weird that nevertheless works on piano.
@Timodc Tim, you've had some great conversations lately touching on if troops will follow unlawful or unethical orders. Might be time to find someone to address the opposite problem: Will state security forces follow lawful orders to block or arrest federal goons breaking the law?
