"The primary role of any government is to defend human and national security, and to promote the common good. This is not the case in Ethiopia".

This was not a random act of violence. It was not an accident, nor an isolated tragedy. It was deliberate; facilitated, encouraged, and tolerated by the federal government of Ethiopia and the Oromia regional government. What we are witnessing is ethnic and religious persecution carried out in plain sight, a calculated effort by those in power to consolidate and entrench their dominance at any cost.
Thank you for drawing attention to the long overlooked suffering of the Amhara people under the Oromo led Ethiopian government. Greater international awareness and scrutiny are urgently needed.
🚨 Attaques meurtrières contre des communautés chrétiennes orthodoxes en Éthiopie : des dizaines de tués et des églises incendiées début juin à Oromia.
Un fléau qui touche aussi le Nigeria, la RDC et le Mozambique…

The Orthodox Christian communities in the Oromia region of Ethiopia have suffered deadly attacks earlier this month, with dozens of Christians killed and churches targeted.
Across Africa, Islamist extremist groups are carrying out repeated attacks against Christian communities in countries including Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, and Ethiopia.
It is profoundly heartbreaking to witness another surge of xenophobic violence in #SouthAfrica this week. Hundreds have marched on Parliament, thousands of families have been displaced, and lives have been tragically cut short.
These include at least five Ethiopians killed earlier in the attacks, and five Mozambicans who died in Mossel Bay. Thousands more are now fleeing for their lives.
To see South Africa turn to xenophobia is a tragic betrayal of the country's struggle for independence and freedom. African nations stood united to dismantle apartheid. Ethiopia proudly supported "Madiba," Nelson Mandela, in 1962 and issued him a passport so he could travel the continent. Other countries helped in many ways, including with political and financial support.
Disagreements and grievances must be addressed by the justice system and the rule of law, never through vigilante violence and collective punishment.
South Africa deserves better. Africa deserves better.
Stop the hate. Protect the vulnerable. Uphold our shared humanity.
You once sought the support of fellow Africans in your struggle for freedom and independence. We stood with you, and together helped build the South Africa of today. Yet decades later, many of the country’s economic levers remain beyond your control. honestly don’t know what you’re so proud of. If I were in your position, I’d be ashamed of myself. Instead of blaming fellow Africans for your problems, I’d be asking why so many people in my own country still have so little control over their economic future.
