The recent killings of Orthodox Christian civilians in Ethiopia’s Arsi region have caused profound grief and concern among many Ethiopians and members of the global Orthodox Christian community. Families have lost loved ones, communities have been traumatized, and survivors continue to seek safety, justice, and recognition of their suffering.
We call upon the international community, human rights organizations, religious freedom advocates, media institutions, and humanitarian actors to pay close attention to reports of violence against civilians and to support efforts aimed at establishing the facts, protecting vulnerable communities, and ensuring accountability for any crimes committed.
Every human life has equal value. No person should face violence because of their faith, identity, or community affiliation. Attacks on civilians and places of worship, wherever they occur, deserve impartial investigation and international attention.
The victims of Arsi should not be forgotten. Their families deserve justice, truth, and support. The survivors deserve security and protection. Lasting peace can only be achieved when violence is addressed through accountability, respect for human rights, and a commitment to protecting all citizens.
We urge governments, international institutions, faith leaders, and human rights organizations to stand with the victims, advocate for the protection of civilians, and ensure that the voices of those affected are heard.
The world must not look away.
