I recently produced an episode of CrowdScience for @bbcworldservice answering the question 'Why am I gay?' A number of listeners had asked the question from all over the world - we looked at the science and tried to provide them with some possible answers! https://t.co/EFAg4tjPU7
If you're missing Halloween then do listen to a CrowdScience I produced on the science of horror! 🎃
The first minute of the programme includes a lot of me screaming!
We got to go to the Recreational Fear Lab in Aarhus and a very scary haunted attraction!

Thrilled to have won, with @jonpblackwell, the @theAGU David Perlman award, for "excellence in science news reporting prepared with a deadline of one week or less", for an edition of Science in Action we made on preparations for the close approach of Asteroid Apophis in 2029.
As ever, our reporting was possible only thanks to the help of many excellent scientists who shared their stories with us: Patrick Michel, Rick Binzel, Sabina Raducan, Anjani Polit, Lorraine Fesq, Daniel Scheeres, Naomi Murdoch & Steve Squyres.
❤️❤️❤️

Have you heard of strawberry leopards?
These animals have an extremely rare colouration caused by a mutation in their DNA. Find out more from Charlotte Searle in BBC Discovery’s latest Tooth and Claw episode.

@OxfordBiology
Really enjoyed making this episode of Tooth and Claw! We addressed their cannibalistic reputations, importance to humans and why they have been know as the 'mother of snakes'! @AdamHartScience@bbcworldservice
I’m thrilled to have been featured on BBC Radio’s Tooth and Claw to talk about the extraordinary praying mantises. From hunting strategies to their overlooked economic value, it is always a pleasure to bring these amazing insects closer to the public 🔗 https://t.co/HoYMK87tym
Last year was the first Jogging For Josh - for my partner who passed away in July 2023 - a 5k run organised by his parents.
Somehow I got a medal!
I’m in North Carolina for it again this Sat.

New hand model alert...... Four eager volunteers got a great paint job going tonight, whilst staying active. Looking for something to do on your Tuesdays, come give @goodgym a try.
@justAfanDavid@BBCWorld Hi David, I’m the producer of the programme. This isn’t a news article, it is the description for today’s episode of the radio programme Science in Action. Each paragraph is describing one of the three topics covered in the programme this week. Hope that helps!
How can South Africans protect themselves from the first detected cases of rabies in Cape fur seals?
🎧 Prof Wanda Markotter explains where scientists think the outbreak began and shares safety tips for keeping people (and their pet dogs) safe

A year ago today my partner Josh passed away. A few days ago I saw Josh’s parents who were in London from North Carolina. I took them to Soho and they got to see their first drag show! It was an evening Josh would have loved and he would have so laughed seeing us all there
In North Carolina this week for Jogging for Josh - a 5k organised by his parents to remember him and raise money for a scholarship to his university, happening tomorrow.
If anyone fancies running virtually this weekend then do sign up at https://t.co/PSLmzbPuUL
Do not miss this great preview of the Apocalypse that is not to come. @esa hosted @nasa and @JAXA_en for a week of science about Hera and OSIRIS-APEX. Well done @jonpblackwell and @PeaseRoland for keeping it real!

Learnt so much producing this programme, attending the Apophis conference at @esa ESTEC with @PeaseRoland. Missing the Earth, Apophis will come closer than one-tenth the distance to the moon giving an opportunity to conduct research which may be crucial for planetary defence.
An aircraft carrier-sized asteroid called Apophis is due to fly by Earth on Friday 13 April, 2029.
Astronomer Richard Binzel says it will be near enough to “buzz the treetops” but stresses scientists are sure it will miss hitting our planet 🌎

Want to feel inspired? Next Tuesday, 9 April at 9.00a.m. NNL’s special advisor, former CSTO and President of the Nuclear Institute, Fiona Rayment is Prof Jim Al-Khalili’s guest on Radio 4’s #TheLifeScientific.

@harrisonjbrock Distraught the power rankings are gone but v understandable - this series is dire 💤 Feel like they've slashed the budget and the You're Fired show is even more painful now...
