The last few weeks have been mentally full and a bit emotionally taxing as leader, but they've also made something more clear to me: busy, challenging seasons often draw out alignment, energy, and purpose in the people around you. Pressure has a way of stripping out the noise so the real work (growth) surfaces.
If you're carrying a heavy stretch, don't miss the upside. Sometimes your effort becomes the spark that builds enthusiasm, clarity, and confidence in others. Stay steady, stay grounded. The weight may be real, but so are the outcomes.
In a world of tech layoffs and AI-driven efficiency, accountability is key—but it’s not the engine. Systems alone breed toxicity; relationships alone create stress. Balance both with a shared vision and a lighthearted environment, and productivity soars naturally. Build trust, keep systems simple, and work with your team, not over them. That’s how you innovate and thrive in the AI era. #Tech #Leadership #AI
Scrum ≠ Agile. I get so tired of posts that equate the two. Nobody needs SMs, POs, Sprints, backlogs, "accountability," or any other practice or meeting (I refuse to call meetings "events" 🙄) that Scrum prescribes. We'd all be better off without any of that, I think. In the immortal words of Brian: "Look, you've got it all wrong. You don't need to follow me. You don't need to follow anybody. You've got to think for yourselves. You're all individuals."
Add this to the totally not normal list of things I've ever seen.
I thought it was a satellite, but as it moved closer, there were two bright lights shining to the sides, and surrounded by fog. I caught this photo as it was disappearing over the corn field.
@bphogan It's always a risks/tradeoffs decision (intentionally or not) to take dependency on systems you have no control over, but that gives ease and speed. The right answer isn't clear to me, that's for sure.
@sama Allow users' data to be truly outside your domain, and therefore not your liability. I think @timberners_lee has the right idea for this - @project_solid. The concept is typically rejected because data = control (and it's monetizable.) However, with control comes responsibility.
@jpmorgan The battle lines?
→ Data access
→ Third-party rails
→ Direct-to-consumer models
Fintech saw them as an opportunity.
Banks now see them as a threat.
@WallStreetMav Historical inflation in the US can be calculated by simply moving the decimal one place to the right every 40 years. (For example, the average home price every 40 years)
Our national debt has been following the same calculation, but x4.
Scarier still, annual income is opposite.
@cboyack Our experience too, but don't give up. We host dinner every Monday evening and anyone is welcome to come - usually 20-30 people. Communities need this, but not everyone has the capacity to do it. (By the way, our little farmhouse is less than 1500sqft - no excuses)
@tferriss We've grown Gierd Inc from 1 to 65+ employees rapidly, with 50% of our team remote across 12 states, and @GustoHQ has been awesome. Integrated with @BennieHealth and @Guideline401k too makes it pretty seamless.
