This whole thing with Max Miller makes me think of how the GOP handled Jack Ryan in 2004. Bill Frist refused to meet with him. IL delegation pushed him out, fast. Standards do decline and courage does depreciate. Trump effect I guess @Timodc@BulwarkOnline@SenatorDurbin
Buttigieg: I’ve looked for evidence of where people can live this American dream. And this can be measured. How many generations does it take to go from the bottom to the top in this place versus that place? We can measure this down to the zip code. You know the number one place statistically speaking to experience the American dream? Denmark.
It's not even in the United States. That should be in America.
@DKThomp Before Dems take fault for this, reexamine summer 2020. Districts were looking for ways to safely reopen. then Trump started tweeting “liberate MN” etc. A strong fed/state mobilization was needed to prep for Fall. Instead there an executive troll and every district for itself.
Kind of feels like we’re morphing from a shining city on a hill where every wants to be to a dated and dimly lit banquet hall in a snooty gated country club where only members wine, dine, golf and gossip but also somehow don’t seem very happy. @RahmEmanuel@Timodc@davidaxelrod
@Timodc Barack Obama should run for Congress and lead a positive aggressive National charge. If we’re bringing back Grover Cleveland let’s do John Quincy Adam’s too.
@Timodc Get your daughter in law a senate seat, don’t let Ron pick his deputy, fire Ron in style in 6 months like he’s Rience Priebus as punishment for the primary, run DoD on an acting sec for as long as you can to do what you want. 3 for the price of one in amoral Trumpville.
@guitarcenter I brought my 3 year old to a location yesterday and had a thought - maybe a table or a room with simple instruments that kids can try? Would promote musical learning and support parents to shop and buy while parenting.
@natsechobbyist @juliaioffe Can rich people start a fund to pay $1 over whatever they get from book contracts to speak there truth in the moment when it has an impact…not years later? @juliaioffe
Can we now please create a nice mobile reading app for local newspapers with simple common subscription model that helps rebuild the public square and local news industry? @newsbysamuels@DKThomp @jmartNYT @beccarosen@robinsonmeyer@_cingraham
Biden needs a frame to help us make sense of it all. How about New Foundation?…for families weakened over decades, for infrastructure/enviro threatened by climate change, for growth. @jonfavs@jdmaccoby@BCAppelbaum
@JakeSherman@Bibliogato or what about a more elegant “common subscription” service - like the common app for college (or Spotify for local news)...my issue is I have like 5 or 6 “locals” and I don’t like the individual sub process for each one.
Dreaming of a future of skyscrapers filled w/ hydroponic farms and rural landscapes full of walkable villages and restored land. @DKThomp @yayitsrob

So sad. My fav place in DC was #newseum front facade where they put the front page of a paper from every state every morning. Maybe @PlanetWordDC can take that up? @jmartNYT @maggieNYT@tomfriedman
@ProfBrianKalt is it plausible the framers added disqualification expressly to guard against the Belknap scenario of former officials? Or else why list it? Without it removal is not much of a stick. “You can’t fire me I quit” is a time old evasion of accountability. @nycsouthpaw
@davidfrum, also think the current state of Senate w/ no filibuster for judges but yes for rest has it upside down. Makes more sense for social & fiscal policy to reflect will of majority & for judges to get super majorities to avoid partisan courts and justify life apptmt.
The key question now is whether congressional Democrats facing purple or red electorates learned the lesson of 2010: You win reelection by delivering real benefits to people fast, not by shrinking and slowing bills that would improve lives in a performance of moderation.
