@realEstateTrent Are they waiting for a zoning change? 6th ave from 23rd to 34th used to be all parking lots. Re-zoned and now its all resi towers. Owners knew if they waited they could build.
@TalktoARYZE An OK building. Visually (tho not economically) fits into the area pretty well. But why is the ground floor retail un-rented after several years? lots of retail around it (target, TJ, soon a Wholefoods) and lots of restaurants. Blank storefronts not good for the neighborhood!
@CJHandmer Modern medicine makes a crazy huge difference. My grandfather died in his 60s of cancer. So did his eldest son. My father, his second youngest, beat 3 cancers and lived to 93. Better medicine.
@bobbyfijan Eh. It can vary block to block. I live 20 minutes from there (on foot) and every 3rd person is pushing a stroller, including me. LOTS of schools in the EV and LES both public and private too. And some great playgrounds.
@realEstateTrent Totally get this. Waited more than 10 years longer before I had my kids. Did a lot of living. Turns out being an old dad is the best thing ever. Go BoSox!
@FrailSkeleton A lot of comments aren't getting the point of this post - the older suburb has trees right at the curb, the newer one only in the front yards, 15-20 ft from the street - they will never get the same kind of overhead canopy. Probably the HOA doesn't want to maintain street trees.
@LaurenElkin I remember when I was 4ish sticking my finger in a small crack in the wall and wondering what all the hairy stuff was. House was in Brookline Ma, build around 1890.
@mattyglesias OK, they made the set for Fox Books in the old Barneys on 7th Ave. I was living just down the street on 17th st in a 250sf rent stabilized studio. Books of Wonder just around the corner. I think i was paying less than $900 at the time. Maybe just plausible if she had a room-mate.
@mattyglesias Speaking as an architect, Sub-Zero has a reputation for maintaining a very steady temperature - you sometimes see them in labs - but mediocre reliability. And they look nice.
