The gospel presentation does not begin with:
āGod loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.ā
It begins with:
āFor the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.ā
-Romans 1:18
You have sinned against a holy God. You stand condemned under His righteous judgment. You cannot save yourself, and apart from Christ, you will face His wrath for eternity.
That is the bad news.
And you need to hear the bad news before you can understand the good news.
The gospel is not that God has a better life waiting for you.
The gospel is that Christ came to save sinners from the wrath they rightly deserve.
He lived the righteous life you could never live.
He died the death you deserved to die.
He bore the wrath of God in the place of His people.
He rose from the grave.
And everyone who repents and believes in Him is justified, forgiven, and reconciled to God.
Donāt soften the bad news and you wonāt have to dilute the good news.
The glory of grace shines brightest against the darkness of our sin.

I am ready
Oh, my children
When Jesus knocks at my door
I'll be there come morning
Don't weep for me
I'll be with my Lord
There's my Bible on the table
Read it to me once more
I can hear God's heavenly angels
Singing me on through heaven's door
Hallelujah Lord
I am ready
No more sorrow
Hallelujah, yes
I am ready, I am ready
I am ready to go
Oh, Hosanna
Take my hand now
Lead me to the promised land now
I am ready, I am ready
Hallelujah, I am ready to go
Oh, Hosanna
I am ready to go
I can hear God's heavenly angels
Singing me on through heaven's door
Singing me on through heaven's door
And I am ready

Back in the day RC Sproul was asked if he would see Billy Graham in heaven because they disagreed via Calvinism/ Arminianism
He simply said ānoāā¦.and let that sit while people processed it
Then he said:
ābecause he will be so near to the throne and I will be so far I may not get a glimpse of him!ā
This is the attitude we need in these disagreements. There are rabids on both sides, and itās just not necessary.
Those who injure you, those who falsely accuse you, those who lie about you, those who offend you, those who criticize you, who bring injustice against you, God uses to perfect you.
Forgiveness in the Age of Rage. ā John MacArthur // August 27, 2017
Here is something you have to consider, the injuries against you and offenses against you are the trials that perfect you. The injuries against you and offenses against you are the trials that perfect you.
Criticisms, injustices, offenses, false accusations, persecutions, mistreatments, abuse, unkindness ā all of those are within the providence and purpose of God. James goes so far as to say this: āCount it allā ā what? ā ājoy when you fall into various trials, because they are perfecting your faith.ā
Peter said, 1 Peter 5:10, āAfter youāve suffered a while, the Lord will make you perfect.ā Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:10, said, āYou know, I prayed that the Lord would remove the thorn in the flesh, and I prayed three times, and He never would do it.ā Then he said this, verse 10, 2 Corinthians 12: āI am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christās sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.ā
Those who injure you, those who falsely accuse you, those who lie about you, those who offend you, those who criticize you, who bring injustice against you, God uses to perfect you. So the injuries and offenses that come against you are the trials that perfect you.
Now when all said and done, the theology of forgiveness is summed up on one person. Turn to 1 Peter 2; 1 Peter 2, and verse 19. Peter is talking about grace, sometimes translated āfavor,ā and about a person bearing up under sorrows when suffering unjustly. This assumes that an offense has come against you, youāre suffering unjustly.
Thatās a very popular thing: āTheyāre hurting me. Theyāre abusing me. Theyāre doing things against me, saying things against me. Itās all unfair; itās all unjust.ā Hereās the right response: āWhat credit is thereā ā verse 20 ā āif, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience?ā ā no credit there ā āBut if when you do what is right and you suffer, you patiently endure it, this finds grace with God.ā And thatās essentially what we just said. Your suffering, the accusations, the abuses are the trials that bring the grace that makes you strong in your weakness.
But hereās the model, verse 21: āFor you have been called for this purpose.ā What is the purpose? Your perfection. You have been called to patiently endure unjust suffering.āYouāve been called for this purpose,ā ā and hereās the one to whom you look ā āsince Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any deceit fount in His mouth; and while being reviled, he did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.ā
Christ accomplished most when He was suffering unjustly, right? That sums it up. And in the suffering, He said, āFather, forgive them; they donāt know what theyāre doing.ā
Forgiveness is everything. Itās the only thing thatās going to sustain love in a marriage, family, friendships, and the church of Jesus Christ.
"A reporter said to me, 'What's your goal in the ministry?' And I said, 'My goal is to glorify God.' He said, 'Well, I mean your future goal.' I said, 'My future goal is to glorify God.' He said, 'I mean what's your goal for the church?' 'To glorify God.' He said, 'Don't you have a great desire to build a great church?' I said, 'No. I have no desire to build a church really. And the reason is because Jesus said, 'I will build My church,' and I'd rather not compete with him.' And so I only desire to do that which glorifies God each day of my life one day at a time and let God build His church His way." ā John MacArthur

Not every season of exhaustion comes from doing TOO MUCH.
Sometimes it comes from carrying things GOD never asked you to carry.
We allow for
Too many distractions.
Too many opinions.
Too many unnecessary battles.
No wonder your mind feels heavy & you feel fatigued!
GOD didnāt create you to give your attention to everything. He created you to be faithful to what Heās called YOU to do. And pray about the other things!
When your purpose becomes clear, your priorities become clearer. And when your priorities become clearer, the fruit of peace rises up to replace confusion.
Take a moment today and take a deep breath, ask yourself:
What am I carrying instead of giving it to GOD?
What am I giving my attention to that doesnāt deserve it?
Lay it down!
Ask the HS to help you remove the clutter.
Focus on what matters.
Walk in purpose.
"There are many plans in a personās mind, but it is the counsel of the Lord that will stand." Proverbs 19:21

Hereās a really good small group Bible study questionā¦
What did the original audience think this meant?
Granted, there can be more to Scripture than the limited understanding of the original audience. But there wonāt be less.
Use this question to cause the group to get out of their own personal context enough to avoid unintentionally abusing Scripture (which happens all the time). Perhaps they will struggle to answer. Thatās ok. Perhaps they will find that this feels dry or unrewarding at first because they are so used to quick, uninformed interpretations that cater to their personal situations. Thatās ok. In the long run this is very healthy and worthwhile.
What if rest is something God invites you into? Jesus didnāt say, āCome to me and Iāll give you more to do.ā He said, āCome to me and I will give you restā (Matthew 11:28). Take a breath today. Slow down. The world will keep spinning. š
Mormons: Weāre Christian
Me: No. Youāre not.
Mormons: We are highly offended by that! How dare you say we arenāt Christian when we believe in Jesus.
Me: You use the name Jesus but reject core Christian beliefs about Jesus. You reject core Christian beliefs about a bunch of essential things. You tend to use the same vocabulary as us but with different definitions.
Mormons: Of course we reject your core beliefs. They are an abomination! This is why Joseph Smith said God told him did all your creeds are in abomination and that he couldnāt join any Christian group in the United States. Itās because you guys donāt know the truth about God and Joseph Smith had to restore the true gospel, fix the teachings you have from your corrupt Bible, and give us a host of new Scriptures.
Me: See, this is why I say you arenāt Christians. Itās not personal. Itās the foundation of Mormonism that you reject core Christian teachings about Jesus, salvation, God, the Bible, exaltation, and more. Joseph Smith made this clear. Brigham young said all Christians were apostates and it was only more recently you guys were told by your leaders to co-opt the name Christian. But itās like a man trying to say heās a woman. No, heās not. Thatās silly. He can be offended but itās not rational and itās actually harmful to pretend heās a woman just to appease him.
Mormons: Mike, we believe in the Bible, Jesus, God the Father, salvation by faith, and all the stuff you believe. We just have a few more things you donāt know about yet. We have your beliefs and extra, because we are like complete Christians.
Me: You believe the Bible is corrupt in whatever ways it may challenge your theology. You believe Jesus wasnāt always God and that heās the brother of Satan. You believe God wasnāt always God and that he became a God in the same way that you can become a God if you are considered worthy of it when you die. You believe in grace plus works which invalidates grace (Romans 11:6) and triggers Galatians 1ās anathema, saying that āwe are saved by grace after all that we can DO.ā You may not have realized it but your religion teaches you the same words as Christians but defines them in ways that actually reject our core beliefs.
Mormons: You donāt understand us. We believe what we believe and itās Christian.
Me: I know some more modern Mormons will say they actually donāt hold to some of those things I mentioned but I have to treat Mormonism based on its Scriptures, apostles, and prophets, not its online apologists. Based on those things, itās not Christian.
Mormon (version 1): Your ignorance and attitude are offensive and harmful. We are Christians.
Mormon (version 2): We are the true Christians and you are apostate. You and most Christians throughout history were not real Christians. Joseph Smith restored true Christianity after it fell away shortly after Jesus rose.
Me: Jesus, the real Jesus, paid the full price for your sins on the cross. You can be saved and forgiven and live eternally with God, the one and only God, by trusting in Christās works and not your own. Joseph was a modern false prophet. Run from him to Jesus.
A man should not despise the pain of seeing his own sin.
That grief may feel heavy, but it is often mercy at work. A dead conscience does not mourn before God. A proud heart does not tremble over corruption. When the Lord begins to show a sinner his guilt, weakness, uncleanness, and helplessness, He is not being cruel. He is stripping away the lies that kept him comfortable on the road to judgment.
āBlessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comfortedā (Matthew 5:4).
No one runs to Christ as Saviour until he knows he is ruined without Him. No one treasures mercy while still pretending he deserves heaven. No one is ready to be clothed in righteousness while still admiring the filthy garments of his own goodness.
āAll of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garmentā (Isaiah 64:6).
This is why conviction is not something to hate. It wounds our pride, but it opens our eyes. It makes us ashamed of sin, but it also drives us to the only One who can cleanse sinners. The publican went home justified, not because he boasted of progress, but because he stood before God with nothing to plead but mercy.
āGod, be merciful to me, the sinner!ā (Luke 18:13).
Before true peace comes, false peace must die. Before a man rests in Christ, he must stop resting in himself. Before he rejoices in grace, he must learn that he deserves wrath.
So if the sight of your sin makes you grieve, do not run from that work of God. Bring it to Christ. The Lord does not reveal sin to leave His people in despair. He reveals it to bring them to the blood that cleanses.
āIf we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousnessā (1 John 1:9).
