Did Biden really say opening schools 100 days post-inauguration is an "ambitious goal"? Not sure what to say other than that i feel very sorry for kids in the US.
* Denial of age stratification and underlying health effects.
* Downplaying the major role of comorbidities.
* Keeping schools closed despite the above and evidence from other countries
* Forcing small businesses to close while allowing chains to stay open since they were "essential"
* Discourage / prohibit exercise despite its obvious positive effects
* Telling people that staying inside is good for them and society
This is indeed economic suicide in slow motion. So dumb. The Dutch government and the EU keep saying they are pro-entrepreneurship but meanwhile they are making sure no entrepreneur will survive. And speaking from experience, this is not the only thing by a long shot.
why not just raise income tax rates?
because your real intent is not to just “provide healthcare”.
you’re masking that you are proposing the creation of, for the first time in the 250 years of this American republic, an organized government seizure of private property from citizens.
you’re calling it a “wealth tax” or a “billionaires tax” or “millionaires tax” or whatever nom du jour polls well. but at the end of the day, it’s the seizure of private property from citizens by the government. citizens that earned money, paid their fair taxes on those earnings (53% if they live in California) and are now being told they need to hand over after-tax assets because the government has failed to provide promised services with the revenue it’s collected, and are now re-casting their own failure to be a socio-economic inequity that must be justly resolved... a slippery slope that has never gone anywhere good (see economic effects in USSR, Cuba, Venezuela, France and Norway wealth tax etc.)
the American founders fled tyranny in Europe and this amazing nation was populated by immigrants (myself and your parents) from around the world not just looking for a “better life” but for a place where they could have freedom from tyrannical governments that can take what they want from private citizens. a great nation borne of property rights, the rule of law, and endowed freedoms to believe, speak, or act. these principles led to the greatest run of innovations, successes, and widespread increase in prosperity, for all citizens, ever seen.
the citizens, the individuals, not the institutions, delivered this progress. those who invented, who toiled, who bled, who sacrificed, who took risk and persevered, who led, and who changed the world, are not charlatans, kleptocrats, or oligarchs. they’re what made us all better off. prosperity is a measure of america’s success, not its failure.
it is your principle that is so offensive, as evidenced by the broad disdain for your flippant flirtation with the darkest of human fantasy - socialism. you and other neo-socialists have led so many of us to reflect on America’s history and what it is becoming. that now leads so many to consider, so unnecessarily, leaving their homes for a place where everyone stands up to shout down the principle you suggest. because if your ideas are now considered moderate, it’s clear this titanic is sinking.
that a “simple tax” of taking assets that have been earned, through toil and tribulation, rightly taxed, and preserved, should now be unjustly seized, is your solution to a problem of obvious government mismanagement and outright fraud, tells us that your true motivation lies not in giving people healthcare but in cutting down success and deleting the system of prosperity and opportunity for all.
i don’t care, and neither should anyone else, what the sum total market value of a private citizens private assets might be. it is none of my business and should be none of yours. because, again, once you open that pandora’s box, we might as well study Lord of the Flies … there is literally nothing stopping 51% of citizens demanding that their government go out and seize 100% of the private property of the 49%.
want to give healthcare to people in need? do your job and fix healthcare. make it affordable. want to be lazy about it? then do your job lazily and raise income taxes.
want to take private property from private citizens who have paid their fair share of taxes and legally earned their property, then honestly declare that it is envy, not inequity, that you strive to resolve…
@grok@patrickc@stripe "could provide a border view" seems like a euphemism. I'd say "would provide an unbiased view" as opposed to a biased view provided by the current experiment
Please @zeynep. Journalists (like you) failed to interrogate the issue. You are responsible too. Your job is to investigate and hold power to account. You didn't. Instead you publish this poor me account of being "badly misled." Shame on you. Admit you failed.
The most important video on X today!
Dr. Jay Bhattacharya: “Science should be an engine for knowledge and freedom, not something that stands on top of society and says you must do this or else.”
“It shouldn’t be pushing covid vaccines.”
“The proper role of scientists in a pandemic is to answer basic questions that policy makers have about what the right policy should be.”
“The role of scientists shouldn’t be to say you can’t send your kids to school for two years.”
“If science is a force for freedom and knowledge, it will have universal support.”
The Department of Justice is investigating the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, a $27 billion program that was part of Joe Biden’s $740 billion Inflation Reduction Act. Created in the spring of 2023, and managed by the Environmental Protection Agency, the fund was supposed to be a “first-of-its-kind” program to address the climate crisis while revitalizing communities that it considered “historically left behind.”
But it appears little of the $27 billion revitalized anything—except the coffers of a range of environmental nonprofits associated with former Obama and Biden administration officials.
“The Biden administration used so-called ‘climate equity’ to justify handouts of billions of dollars to their far-left friends,” @leemzeldin, the Trump administration’s new EPA administrator, told @TheFP. “It is my utmost priority to get a handle on every dollar that went out the door in this scheme and once again restore oversight and accountability over these funds. This rush job operation is riddled with conflicts of interest and corruption.”
A Free Press investigation reveals that of the $27 billion, $20 billion was rushed out the door to eight nonprofit groups after Biden lost the election—but before President Donald Trump took office. As one former EPA official put it on a secretly recorded video, it was akin to “tossing gold bars off the Titanic.”
The eight groups were allocated sums ranging from $400 million to $6.9 billion. Several of them were formed in August of 2023, just one month after the grant applications went live in July of 2023, when it became clear that large nine- and 10-figure grants would be up for grabs. The boards and staff of these eight groups include Democratic donors, people with connections to the Obama and Biden administrations, and prominent Democrats like Stacey Abrams.
“These are some of the biggest grants to individual organizations in American history."
Excited to share I’m bringing my designer brain and start-up spirit into the government. My first project at DOGE is improving the slow and paper-based retirement process.
Since leaving my operating role at Airbnb in 2022, I’ve been looking for the next digital design challenge. And I can think of few more important ones than volunteering to improve the user experience within our government.
If anyone else in good standing wants to help design beautiful, user-friendly digital products, reach out.
Here is brutal truth about the Palestinians: Peace isn’t possible until we deal with reality.
1. Hamas has to be destroyed. No ceasefires, no negotiations. You don’t make deals with people who strangle toddlers and parade bodies through the streets. They’re a death cult.
2. Palestinian culture has to change. The problem isn’t just leadership. it’s generations of radicalization. No more textbooks teaching kids to hate Jews. No more “Pay-for-Slay” funding terrorists’ families. A Palestinian state cannot exist until it proves it won’t be another terror state.
3. Iran is the real power behind the horror. Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis. None of them exist without Iran bankrolling and arming them. Until Iran is contained or its regime collapses, the cycle of war continues.
So what’s the real path to peace?
✅ Hamas gets ruthlessly hunted down and eliminated. No pauses, no “humanitarian deals” that let them regroup.
✅ Gaza gets international oversight. No Hamas, no corrupt PA. The US must lead this effort.
✅ Palestinian schools and media get a full reboot. No more antisemitic indoctrination. No more glorifying “martyrs.”
✅ Israel and Saudi Arabia formalize their alliance, isolating Iran and shifting power in the region.
✅ Iran’s influence gets dismantled. No more proxy armies keeping the region in permanent war.
✅ Palestinians get self-rule ONLY after proving they can govern without turning into another Gaza.
The world loves empty peace talks and symbolic gestures that lead nowhere.
Real peace takes force, economic transformation, and cultural change. Anything else is just setting up for another October 7th.
