“It’s just allergies”
“Ive never had allergies before this!”
“New allergies”
“I keep breaking out in hives, I have no idea why!”
“I have asthma now 😓”
“Constant red bumps, not sure why” “my skin is so itchy”
“I can’t drink alcohol anymore….”

1/ Long COVID is one of the most complex post-infectious syndromes ever studied.
A new review in Nature Communications Medicine attempts to unify the biology.
Here’s what’s established, what’s emerging, and what’s still speculative. 🧵
Genome-wide DNA methylation profiling in COVID-19 positive patients reveals alterations in pathways linked to neurological dysfunction
HOLY MACARONI!!
🚨FURTHER CONFIRMATION: SARS-CoV-2 doesn’t leave quietly, it permanently reprograms your genome toward Neurodegeneration!!!
➡️This new USA study performed whole-genome methylation sequencing (WGMS) on peripheral blood from 101 SARS-CoV-2-positive patients (asymptomatic to severe) versus 105 uninfected controls to map COVID-19-induced epigenetic changes and their links to neurological outcomes.
➡️Highlights:
• Widespread genome-wide DNA hypomethylation in infected individuals, markedly intensified in severe cases,
• Severity-stratified differentially methylated genes (DMGs): 19 in mild, 19 in moderate, and 35 in severe symptoms,
• DMGs overlapped both canonical immune-response pathways and genes tied to neurodegenerative diseases,
• Pathway enrichment (GSEA, g:Profiler, PANTHER, KEGG) strongly associated DMGs with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and neuropsychiatric conditions,
• Whole-genome methylation sequencing(WGMS) provided the first comprehensive severity-stratified map of these methylation shifts, implicating epigenetic reprogramming in acute immune dysregulation and potential long-term neurological sequelae, #Leonardi_effect
• “It is important to note that our study is not causative by nature and only indicates associations,"
• Study also supports the view that COVID-19 is a spectrum of distinct syndromes rather than a single disease entity.
‼️So, COVID-19 does not merely infect, it permanently rewires the human epigenome in patterns identical to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, guaranteeing a future epidemic of neurological degeneration, 😧have a nice Saturday!

Imagine if a nasal spray could make you immune not only to the viruses that cause COVID-19 and influenza, but to all respiratory diseases

The NIH has this great project called LitCovid that gathers Long COVID research in one place.
It's kind of amazing to see the studies piling up and getting better.
Science takes its time, but it does show up.

@DrJ_surgeon@LeeKurtiss@michaelryan756 Then I would highly advise looking into the protections provided by the protein-based Novovax if that is a major concern for you given your unique health issues!
New population-based data from Michigan shows that #LongCOVID is linked to persistent sleep problems—lasting up to 3 years after infection.
➡️ Compared with those without Long COVID, affected adults slept ~20 minutes less per night and were 2–3× more likely to sleep <6 hours, even years after infection. 1/

CRISPR came from yogurt bacteria. GLP-1s came from Gila monster venom. Taq polymerase came from hot spring bacteria.
As much as we like to think that progress in biotech is driven by human design, our biggest breakthroughs over the years have all originated from nature.
BREAKING: Huntington's Disease, which is normally fatal within two decades, has been treated for the first time, according to researchers at the University College London and BBC report.
