Two weeks ago, on Sept. 1st, I defended my dissertation at the @EUI_EU. During my PhD I researched the political economy of the EU's 'geoeconomic turn', with special attention to European export finance, a growing instrument of geoeconomic interventionism.

My next step? Today, I took up a post-doc position at the University of Bremen. I am happy to be joining the team of Susanne Schmidt to do research on the implementation and enforcement of European internal market rules, as part of the Reconfiguring Europe project.

Philipp Genschel, @leek_lauren, and I investigated whether war has led to centralisation for Europe after the invasion of Ukraine.

We find strong differences between policy fields (defence, energy, fiscal policy) but conclude that war doesn’t necessarily translate into functional use and political feasibility of centralisation as assumed by bellicist theory.
