Farage offered in July to pay for the Clacton by-election. An unnamed government source told City AM it was a "hard no", because donation rules don't allow money tied to a specific purpose.

Now Reform has announced a £250,000 Clacton Community Fund instead. Applications go through the Reform UK website and a local committee decides who gets the money.

Worth knowing: on 7 July Farage named no figure. LBC put the likely cost at more than £200,000 and the £250,000 number came from Rupert Lowe. I can't find a published final cost of the by-election, or any record of Reform paying any of it.

Giving to local charities isn't a scandal. But the questions are simple. Who holds the money? Who sits on the committee? Will recipients and amounts be published? The article doesn't name the committee.

His letter also says he was re-elected with "even more votes". True by about 1,000, 22,239 against 21,225, on a 44% turnout with the major parties standing aside.
