The @ycombinator Fall 2026 application deadline is today.

I was rejected twice before getting into YC with @mosaic_so.

My first two applications were over-polished and overthought. The one that worked was simple, clear, and honest.

Here’s the advice I wish I’d had earlier:

1. Co-founder quality > idea quality

Your idea may change. Your co-founder shouldn’t. YC is betting on the founders as much as the idea—ideally, people who have known and built with each other for years.

2. Tinker until the idea finds you

Great ideas often emerge from curiosity and side projects, not brainstorming sessions. Pull on interesting threads and see where they lead.

3. Build more, write less

A working demo beats application fluff. Clarity beats wordsmithing. If the idea is strong, you should be able to explain it simply.

4. Apply before you feel ready

Rejection often means “not yet.” Every application cycle forces you to sharpen what you’re building, who it’s for, and why it matters.

5. Do things that don’t scale

Scrappiness wins early. Perfection kills momentum. Let your application and founder video show how resourceful your team really is.

6. High agency creates access

We went from reading Paul Graham’s essays to speaking directly with people we admired. That happens when you show up instead of waiting to be invited.

YC gives you an environment—not a guarantee. The real work still happens afterward.

But if you’re on the fence, apply.

If you get in, your life may take a completely new trajectory. If you don’t, learn from it and keep going.

La verdadera grandeza está en que, después de haber alcanzado todo, todavía sea capaz de emocionarse hasta las lágrimas.

Lágrimas que no nacen del éxito. Que nacen del amor.

Amor por la camiseta. Amor por sus compañeros. Amor por un pueblo que lo acompañó en tantos momentos difíciles y hoy lo abraza como el héroe que siempre fue.

Y una imagen conmueve todavía más: la devoción con la que lo rodea el grupo. Cada abrazo, cada mirada y cada gesto reflejan algo que trasciende el fútbol. Sus compañeros no solo juegan con él; juegan por él y para él. Quieren verlo feliz.
