I have this account for niche film theory stuff where I can dialogue with my favorite pop culture critics and also repost stuff about whales and megafauna
@KristofDesmet7@JimShull It’s Marvel the comics that’s evergreen, not so much the MCU. One only needs to look at how relevant the Pirates movies are nowadays to get a sense of a single movie franchise’ cultural longevity.
@eavoss Like the reason Marvel Superhero Island works is because it brings in the art style and overall aesthetics of comic books as a whole. An MCU-based Marvel theme park addition, doesn’t do that. Anything else will jsut feel like a normal corporate office park/building.
@eavoss I think it’s more that because the MCU exists at point that is set in a perpetual present day New York, makes it hard to really feel like a different, instantly evocative place. Even stuff like the Avengers Tower or the Sanctum Santorum exists in the context of modern NYC 1/
@rbpea1993@AI_Aihajime Yeah having everything be digital is kind of what destroyed the inherent charm and artistry of animation as a whole tbh. Effects and line work feel so mechanical now and it never takes into account actual animation principles
@AI_Aihajime So much of the animation and design principles that made classic anime so striking has been lost tbh. Modern Industry standards have just sanded down a lot of the artistry in it.
@LizardManMeyer@punishednuz All in all though, I think Finn’s plot is great as it is, the only reason people are so uncomfortable with it is is because of how much it shows the realities of war and the money that fuels it. It scrubs off the indulgence in the fantasy of it.
@LizardManMeyer@punishednuz Yeah, he was just following the logical progression of the character from TFA. If Abrams had been ballsy enough to kill Poe off like he meant to, maybe Finn’s plot in TLJ might’ve been stronger.
@ShalkaFanNo1 I’m sure Disney played a part in making false promises to RTD and co. Like I bet they encouraged them to plan far ahead. The Streaming Wars a weird and unpredictable beast and Doctor Who, on paper, has a lot of clout on its own too.
@ShroudOfTuring@JboiHQ All the charm of it were very surface level, to be fair, mostly involving casting. Whitaker and Gil are delightful! It’s just an unfortunate misfire of ideas and concepts. Comparing that to the very ambitious RTD2 era feels so short sighted/bitter.
@Darren_Mooney Jesus, were they even paying attention? Some people just love playing 5d chess when it comes to the media they consume trying to outsmart it when it’s practically just holding their hand the whole way. This is why so much of tv and movies now are so dumbed down
@JboiHQ Wow, this is so mean spirited. Darvill is pretty successful in his own right and two friends having a podcast for fun based on the time where they all met and became lifelong buddies (along with Smith) isn’t all that unexpected nor should be considered a step down for either.
