God knows, records, and cares about every grief and sorrow.
“You yourself have recorded my wanderings. Put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?”
(Ps 56:8 CSB)
Piper: “I have met people who cannot feel loved by God, it seems, unless their *own worth* as a person is the basis of God’s love for them. And therefore my whole theology is anathema to them. It makes me weep. The Bible does not teach that God loves us because of *our worth*. He loves us by sending his own Son to die for undeserving, ungodly enemies, thus *giving us worth* (Rom. 5:6–10). And that worth consists in the beauty of our conformity to his Son (Rom. 8:29). He loves us at the cost of the life of his Son in order to display the greatness of his grace in our beautification for his Son’s Bride. This is what it is to be loved for the glory of God.”
I am going to say this again because it needs to be said: if your proof that someone is liberal/untrustworthy relies heavily on "they are not young-earth," you are functioning from historical ignorance. Such a criterion would exclude Machen, Warfield, Spurgeon, etc.
I am deeply thankful for the irenic, winsome, and joyful ministries of Don Carson, John Piper, and Gavin Ortlund. Their faithfulness and charity have shaped how I think, worship, and speak about the truth.
The gap between 2025 and 1985 is the same as the gap between 1985 and WWII. That’s right, our 80s soundtrack is as remote now as their big band was to us then.
Time is rude like that.
Budding seminarians and young preachers, here's something you need to hear:
Karl Barth's last name is pronounced "Bart."
Meredith Kline is a man.
Kelly Kapic is a man.
Alex Motyer's name is pronounced "Muh-tare".
Thielicke is pronounced "Tee-lih-cuh.”

One thing I love about CHBC’s worship service: They are not afraid to look at each other when they sing.
Spirit-filled singing is singing to each other (Eph. 5:19).

How many times have you heard someone say this?
In the Bible, "hope" does not mean "I hope so" but rather "confident expectation"?
The problem is that this isn't true.
It certainly means confident expectation some times. Maybe even most times. But not all the time.
“Herod hoped to see Jesus perform a sign” (Luke 23:8).
Same word. And it means "I hope so" rather than "confidently expected."
Context is king.
