@DarkThunder312@Cstanford1981@SqSehrish Math is math whether written numerically or as an expression in words. It still has to follow the order of operations. I’ve been a math teacher, and this specifically is taught when teaching order of operations so that students understand the different ways items will be written.
@JohnnyCrypto18@SqSehrish You clearly don’t comprehend simple instructions. It doesn’t say divide 10 in half it says divide 10 BY half, which is 1/2 or 0.5. If it read the way you’re incorrectly interpreting it, you’d be correct.
@JohnnyCrypto18@SqSehrish It doesn’t say divide 10 in half. It says divide by half, which means, if you comprehend basic language, 10/0.5, which equals 20.
@LeeCig_@SqSehrish In half means divide by 2. By half means divide by 0.5 (1/2), which in turn means you can multiply by 2. Hence, step 2 is 80-20. 10/0.5=20
@vertigogh66@tinman_21@SqSehrish That’s something I would do too, but nowadays there are numerous language learning apps that would be much more cost effective than registering at a local jr college. The people we’re referring to just don’t have any desire to fit in.
@JohnnyCrypto18@SqSehrish Do you even know the order of operations? Parentheses, exponents (neither of these apply here), multiplication OR division (whichever appears first from left to right), addition OR subtraction (again, left to right).
@Sashikitty138@SqSehrish This one is also worded horribly with the division, which I’m certain is done intentionally. And I’d be right there with you if someone pointed out a mistake I made.
@fernandezstefan@Brandon1818839@king_bf13@SqSehrish No, it’s 10/0.5, or 10*2, which yields 20. 80-20 is 60 and 60+5 is 65. You have to follow order of operations. 80-20 is the 2nd calculation following proper order of operations.
@Sashikitty138@SqSehrish You don’t. The answer is 65. It’s ten divided by half, or 0.5, which yields 20, which is the first calculation you list perform. Then, 80-20=60+5=65.
@AnthonyMHines@SqSehrish Some people probably would assume 10’dividd by half to be 10/2, which would lead to 70 if order of operations was performed properly. But the correct answer is 65
@vertigogh66@tinman_21@SqSehrish I can definitely get behind that. I’m on the Mississippi coast, and we have a decent number of people here just like that. Not so much in the city I live in, but there are some. I know if I moved to a foreign country and was going to live there for a while I’d learn the language.
