110 bu Wolverine! Dryland bean stubble. Unbelievable!!
Look at the heads!
Nachtigal Farms 45 east of Pierre in what we call the Pocket.
We've been fortunate to have some acres of the new HY141 and even more fortunate to have some acres with side-by-side comparisons to top yielding varieties in our area.
NOTE: the difference in tillers!!
SY Valda is on the left HY 141 on the right
Yield testing #wheat in the high plains is fascinating. From incredible yield potential south of Ovid, CO to probably the worst #hail damage I’ve ever witnessed north of Yuma, CO it’s been a unique loop. Both pics are of AP Bigfoot (L) and new variety AP Sunbird (R).
We’re going to make progress today with an absolutely fantastic opportunistic #stripe_rust note east of Viola in SC Kansas. There’s a wide range of reactions from very susceptible to highly tolerant. @RichWheat@Apwheat@KSUWheatDisease@KSUWheat
2023 wheat had some up & downs! The Panhandle saw an unusual amount of Scab. We've seen repercussions of the pathogen in 2024, & we might see it again if it stays rainy. Check out our Crop Watch article to learn more! https://t.co/ZDphU3Bce1
Extremely low levels of stripe rust found outside of Isabel (Barber Co.) and Sawyer (Pratt Co.). I am honestly questioning the disease triangle as I have no idea how the environment has been conducive (only slightly kidding). @KSUWheat@KSUWheatDisease
Low levels of stripe rust have now been reported in Sumner Co, Kansas. Thanks to @SGAgAgent for the scouting efforts.
You can track real-time reports of this disease in the region here: https://t.co/p2iz2sv4Oe
Check out the revamped K-State Soil Test Interpretations and Fertilizer Recommendations publication from @SoilFertilityKS. In the nitrogen recs, you can factor in production system (dryland/irrigated), application method & effeciency factors for WKS. https://t.co/Cv92rNq8Yx
Freeze damage becoming evident in South Central Kansas in our plots east of Sawyer. While I found a few dead growing points, the mass majority of stems I split seem okay.
Sorry for the poor photo. Seeing more freeze killed heads than I would like. Especially give this field has gotten dry, cracks in the ground starting to show. Central Kansas.
Just posted the latest wheat disease update for Oklahoma. Growers are urged to watch for stripe rust! It has spread north and now found @Stillwater. More details and management recommendations can be found at https://t.co/X5ziZHBxec
High stripe rust pressure @Tipton, OK. This year stripe rust is earlier than usual. Wheat @Tipton is not yet at flag leaf stage, so varieties with only adult plant resistance look susceptible at this stage. Thanks Dr. Carver for the photos.
Stripe rust was reported yesterday at Altus, Southwestern OK. A few hotspots were found on susceptible varieties but disease pressure is likely to increase in coming weeks.
Gotta admit it’s a bit odd to be checking out #wheat plots at 8:30 in the morning in February in short sleeves. The crop is obviously enjoying the weather too!
