@postoctobrist but has the added benefit that it does basically work properly. Shell gold is another option, but expensive to buy and a bit involved to make (though not difficult). But for miniatum ink + 5 transfer leaf + a dog tooth burnisher + a little pack of glassene paper, I'd say £50-60?
@postoctobrist if you want to achieve good results in gold you might also try miniatum ink + gold leaf, which can seem intimidating in outlay for kit needed, but if you use transfer leaf rather than loose, that keeps things simpler, and you can buy books of just 5 leaves which keeps cost down,
