🚨 We're hiring! 🚨
I'm recruiting for 1-3 outstanding postdocs in a broad search focused on air pollution in the Apte Lab.
Please share and apply by Nov 15 for highest priority review.

This ES&T Letters study by @joshapte of @BerkeleyCee@UCBerkeley @UCBerkeleySPH quantifies the monitoring gaps in the #SLAMS network’s ability to detect concentration hotspots under the new #PM2.5 standard. #NAAQS#OpenAccess: https://t.co/UoHQut81yP
New paper out today!
We have a great new PM2.5 air pollution standard.
But our US EPA monitoring network has crucial gaps. It may miss many places that exceed the new standard.
More monitoring can help!

(4) Hyperlocal inverse modeling.
We are combining hyperlocal measurements and satellite data with inverse models to better understand the emissions sources that impact air quality in overburdened communities.
(3) Air pollution in South Asia.
In collaboration with universities and think tanks in India, we are using sensor networks, advanced instruments, and reduced complexity models to identify scalable approaches to addressing air pollution.
(2) Development and application of reduced complexity air quality models.
We are developing modeling tools to identify solutions to air pollution in the most overburdened communities in the US and worldwide.
(1) Mobile monitoring.
We have several large mobile monitoring campaigns starting in late 2024, including CARB's exciting Statewide Mobile Monitoring Initiative to map air pollution in disadvantaged communities.
And we have a snazzy new UC Berkeley mobile air quality lab.
We have several new projects starting up, listed below.
This is a broad search. Apply if you are interested in the kind of work we do!
We have funding to support people with backgrounds in measurement, modeling, remote sensing, and other methods.

Excited to share my latest work in ES&T Letters @EnvSciTech!
We find that US air pollution monitoring network lacks adequate coverage, leaving millions of people unprotected under the stricter 2024 PM2.5 standard.

Open assistant professor position at Berkeley in construction automation. Please pass on to those that would be good candidates: https://t.co/zQbLiRn0vY
Campus researchers have discovered consistent racial disparities in exposure to PM2.5 — fine particulate matter in the air — from cars, trucks and other vehicles, despite an average reduction in exposure to vehicle air pollution in California

Hear me out: maybe we don't do hydrogen passenger trains?
"Because of delivery bottlenecks, the hydrogen train in the German state of Lower Saxony cannot operate as planned. Instead, five diesel trains currently service the line, while the hydrogen trains are shorter than usual to conserve fuel."
