The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, FCVSN, led the Nigerian University System (NUS) delegation to the 45th Annual Conference of the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA26), held in Québec City, Canada, from 18–22 May 2026.
The conference, themed “Misinformation, Disinformation, Communication, and Impact Assessment,” provided a global platform for advancing dialogue on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and sustainable development. Nigeria’s participation reaffirmed the commitment of the NUC and Nigerian universities to positioning the Nigerian University System at the forefront of global conversations on sustainability, impact assessment, and institutional capacity development.
The delegation included Vice-Chancellors of universities hosting the six SPESSE Centres of Excellence, SPESSE Centre Leaders, academic staff, and officials of the NUC, including the National Project Coordinator of SPESSE, Dr. Joshua Atah, alongside members of the Independent Facilitation Unit (INFU).
