I’ve been building a vehicular combat game for the last 3-4 months 👀💥
Think Twisted Metal + Burnout, with faster combat, bigger explosions, customizable loadouts, and unique character abilities.
This is Overdrive: Last One Standing.
Still a LOT of work left on VFX, SFX, characters, HUD, models, maps, etc. but it’s already ridiculously fun.
I spent 3 hours playing my own game the other night 😂
The goal:
💀 FFA / Last One Standing
🤝 4v4 multiplayer
🔥 Multiple game modes
🎯 COD-style loadouts
💥 Cinematic destruction
🆓 Free multiplayer demo
I’m looking for early players to jump in, break things, give feedback, and help shape the game.

Yeah so this is going to have multiplayer but some new mechanics like combos and weapons that help on modes like capture the flag and king of the hill.
For example a healing tether can heal or protect a teammate on the hill or a transformer like armor plating that animates down from the roof deflecting shots and increasing armor for a period of time. Also a scorpion like harpoon wench hook so you can grab cars before they capture a flag or zone and then do a combo. Definitely inspired but lots of new fun mechanics and things to add a breathe of fresh air.
Saw that this morning and took a look the game looks pretty cool P2P hosting would never work for multiplayer though so that's probably why they lost a lot of people early on.
If the host leaves a lobby it closes the game for everyone or pauses and switches host its also usually really laggy for everyone besides the host. I have dedicated servers that will spin up globally similar to AAA games so multiplayer pretty much feels the same as offline. I connected to servers in california from the east coast and felt no lag at all.
Thanks for joining the discord and sharing that in there! Theres also a suggestions area where you can suggest ideas and others can discuss or upvote them.
Agree and disagree I mean games like rocket league seem to be doing fine. Just need a progression system or things to unlock and push for. Feel like a lot of people quit playing twisted metal after they got the ending and didn't replay it until maybe 20 years later if that. With that said I still have characters with fun stories and cool vehicles that make you want to play them.
If there is constantly something new it should keep things alive. I'm planning on having a community map builder among other things so players can build and share their own maps then you can play them online. That will definitely happen post-launch though.
@LiveWithLL1 Funny you mentioned these had pyramids with tunnels you could drive through and an idea around the Grand canyon on the list. Thanks for the feedback 🤘
If you could battle at ANY location in OverDrive what would you want to see? 👀 🌎
Abandoned cities? Desert wastelands? A theme park gone wrong? Railroad yard and drivable mines?
Drop your ideas below! 🚗💥
@kommandant89 Yeah feel free to share ideas going to have playtests for multiplayer live soon but trying to implement things the community wants. In its current state even though it needs some polish I know everyone would love playing it, it's a ton of fun to play already.
Honestly don't get the hype on qwen-3.7 tried using it and it can't do anything besides read files and list directories. Couldn't even do something as simple as change text on a tsx file. What are the best local models?
While I'm working on more ways to customize your character in OverDrive.
What's more important to you in a car combat game?
Trying to build this thing with the community 👀
I want to share a little story about why I'm creating OverDrive and putting my heart and soul into this game. ❤️
When I first started building OverDrive, my dad had just finished fighting cancer and going through chemo. Unfortunately, the second time around hit him even harder. Complications from his treatment caused his lung to shrink and collapse, leaving him dependent on oxygen for daily things which was super hard to watch since he was generally a super active person always trying to stay busy.
Through all of that, we spent time working on his 1932 Ford Coupe together. We redid the interior, flipped through old parts catalogs looking for engine upgrades, and went to car shows to check out other cars and show off his hot rod. Those moments meant everything to me.
In August, my dad passed away.
A few weeks before he passed, I added his hot rod to OverDrive, adapting it to fit the game's world. I was so excited to show him, but I never got the chance. He passed before I could share it with him.
After losing him, I made a promise to myself that I would finish the game.
OverDrive has become so much more than a game to me. It's a way to honor my dad, carry a piece of him with me, and turn the time we spent together into something that will live on.
Every time I work on the game, I'm reminded of him and the memories we had together.
Miss you dad. ❤️🏁
