the fastest way to shut down neuroplasticity is labeling yourself a failure. you have to be delusional enough to look at your worst attempt and call it data collection.
i dare you to be as delusional as possible for 30 days. compliment strangers. ask for things that feel out of your reach. take shot after shot after shot. you won’t hit them all, but you’ll hit a couple. but what you hit isn’t the point. it’s about rewiring what you see as possible. when you remove your self imposed limits, you realize they were never real to begin with. anything is possible my friend. but it’s up to you to pursue it.
There are 4 realities in a man’s life:
1. He leaves his parents’ home and discovers the cost of food and shelter.
2. He chooses to get married and discovers the cost of a wedding and running a home for two.
3. His wife gives birth and he discovers the cost of hospital bills, formula, diapers and school fees.
4. As he nears retirement, he awakens to the cost of building a family home.
Next time you see a man drinking, don’t be quick to judge him.
Be blessed.
My son, when choosing a wife, choose an all-season woman.
Life has summers and storms.
Do not marry a woman who only knows how to love you in summer.
Be blessed.
The person you marry will eventually annoy you. They will have flaws. They will change. They will disappoint you. You will do the same to them. That’s not proof you chose the wrong person. That’s proof you chose a human being.
To finish first, you must first finish.
"The lesson of leverage is this: Assume that the worst imaginable outcome will occur and ask whether you can tolerate it. If the answer is no, then reduce your borrowing.”
"Investment risks can take you out of the game altogether."
always loved this kurt vonnegut guide to writing with style, particularly that the very first step is 'find a subject you care about and which you in your heart feel others should care about. it is this genuine caring, and not your games with language, which will be the most compelling and seductive element in your style'
