This role was ad hoc, non-political, lasted less than four months, and was focused on solving a specific problem rather than being a formal government position or part of Abacha’s administration.

Peter Obi himself has clarified that he never held any government position before becoming governor of Anambra State, and his only interaction with Abacha’s regime was related to this port congestion issue. He was not the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) nor a long-term official under Abacha. His role was more of an advocate or chairman of a committee, not a permanent government appointment.
