@JLSousaSantos@kelvinfiji There are no mysteries. Fiji's porous marine borders, coupled with weak border control at our seaports of entry are making it easier for traffickers of illicit substances to work.
In most #Commonwealth Parliaments, the mace is the symbol of sovereign or parliamentary authority and without it the Parliament cannot meet or pass laws.
⬇️This example from Canada 🇨🇦 shows that both national & provincial Legislatures have their own historic parliamentary mace.
2024 is the biggest election year in history.
More than half of the world's population are set to have a chance to vote in national elections this year.
Commonwealth countries due to head to the polls in 2024 include Ghana, India, Mozambique, Namibia, Pakistan, Rwanda, South Africa and UK.
For voters, election night is when the final whistle sounds. Months of campaigning comes to its conclusion, and a result is declared.
But for the people who run Parliaments, election night is when the work really kicks off.
Transitioning to a new Parliament is a huge administrative task. 10s or even 100s of MPs all start their new job on the same day, and Parliament must be ready to welcome them.
The transition requires advance planning and flexibility and has to be done alongside meeting the operational requirements of the current Parliament. It can be particularly challenging for smaller administrations with limited resources.
To help Parliaments manage this process, the CPA has produced a Handbook for Parliaments in Election Planning.
Written for parliamentary officials who are responsible for election planning, the Handbook shares election planning practices from Parliaments across the Commonwealth.
