While we love every full Moon, there’s a special place in our hearts for the Harvest Moon, which is the full Moon closest to the fall equinox. Many cultures have holidays connected to this Moon, including the mid-Autumn festival in some East Asian countries and Chuseok in Korea!
FULL MOON on Friday the 13th! Only about 1% of full moons fall on a Friday the 13th. This one is even rarer, occurring near apogee, the farthest point in the Moon's orbit. This last happened in 1832 and won't happen again for more than 500 years!
"As [Neil Armstrong] and Buzz Aldrin planted the American flag into the ‘magnificent desolation’ of the Moon’s surface, they left no doubt about what had brought humans to the new frontier—American ingenuity, grit, and determination." https://t.co/kf7xNLozjr
Fifty years ago, humans took their first steps on the Moon. The world watched as we made history.
This week, you can watch us salute our #Apollo50th heroes and look forward to our next giant leap for future missions to the Moon and Mars. Tune in: https://t.co/b5Lp5zWLm1
