@fabius10scudi@RussianPapist Brother, I pray we be united as in Christ. You are the one entering into the realm of tenuous standing before the Lord by sympathizing with a schismatic sect. I pray that change will come from within the Church to correct the modernist wrongs you point to.
@fabius10scudi@RussianPapist So SSPX can put the Pope on the clock and force him to acquiesce to their demands? That doesn’t sound like filial respect they hollowly profess. I agree the Pope should’ve done more to dialogue, but SSPX has made the situation far worse. There was hope, now it is far off.
@MLJHaynes You’d think they would’ve studied up on Canon Law and understood the what automatic (latae sententiae) excommunication means. But that would get in the way of their justification for grave sin.
@fabius10scudi@RussianPapist If you delve into history as you suggested, you’ll find the parallels unflattering for SSPX.
You are mistaken about the Pope excommunicating them. The very act of illicit Consecrations incurs an automatic (latae sententiae) excommunication. It’s self-inflicted not a Pope’s error.
@fabius10scudi@RussianPapist I’m not sure I understand the Bishop’s reference. Pope Liberius signed a semi-Arian document condemning St. Athanasius while under duress from the Empire. This is not remotely an analogous historical example.
@fabius10scudi@RussianPapist You can’t profess love for a spouse and then become an adulterous cheater because she disappointed you. It’s the exact same thing here.
@fabius10scudi@RussianPapist They did formally leave. They knew the act would incur an automatic (latae sententiae) excommunication per Canon Law. One cannot willful shirk the requirement for Apostolic Mandate, ignore the Pope and then profess to be obedient to the Church. It’s simply paradoxical.
@fabius10scudi@RussianPapist If there was one remaining, one could make the case. I am saddened by the attitude that Rome won’t change. If one really believes the Church is the pillar of Truth, he will persevere, like all the Saints did despite the challenges of each age. SSPX excommunicated themselves, fled
@BreeSolstad I agree wholeheartedly, none should renounce in the grave error SSPX leadership just committed and the excommunication they have incurred.
@o_hilles@TridentineBrew In 1988 they had one ailing bishop, in 2026 they had two in good health. I’m as frustrated as you are about the suppression of TLM and the modernist vein in the Church, but Christ commanded us to be one. Choosing the grave sin of schism is a tragic mistake.
