Research for my dissertation (looking at play based instructional strategies) may benefit from a foundation in #disabilitystudies. I’ve had an introduction, but I want to learn more. I’ve followed @DSQJournal and @DS_Ryerson. Who else should I follow? Who can I study?

@jaxtell123 @ssecijak @jamidcole NEA is a union, but the local groups in places like Oklahoma and Texas are professional associations. They can provide you with legal counsel, but they can’t enter negotiations with the school districts.

@FaaairlyDecent @fuckyouiquit @GmfZ_001 Depends on where you work, and where you live. CA has broader protections for workers than many other states. I’m a single teacher, and spent my first 17 yrs working in TX, the mid-tier health plan premium was $800/mo. In CA I have a better plan and premium around $100.

@jemelehill AA does not mean less capable. US zip codes determine educational opp, and many zip codes are very segregated. Lack of opp is not the same as less capability. UC found high achieving BIPOC less likely to enroll if there won’t be other BIPOC students. AA is critical for diversity!

@GiftedTawk I always hated it! I’m a words person. Asset always made me feel inadequate and generally want something I enjoyed. If your goal is creative thinking, why does the project have to be based in drawing? And if the purpose is the drawing, then admit that creativity was not the aim.

@Elisabeth13 @alicekeeler I taught in Texas for many years, fearful to move back to California because the cost of living is much higher and there are state income taxes. But between the higher salary and much better benefits (thank you unions) i was actually in a much better position financially.
