Product managers what do you hate about your job?
Popular answer: Nothing.
Real answer: I only dislike a few things 👇
• A product roadmap that is solely driven by the sales team
• Executives or team heads with loud voices and high salaries but zero depth in research, ideas, or data.
• PMs are expected to think like CEOs, are paid entry-level salaries, and are paraded around like interns.
• “Top” enterprise customers drive the roadmap because they pay a hefty fee, which is enough reason for leadership to let them run the company.
• Influencing, especially without authority.
• Racing against time, trying to build features, fight fires, and convince 100 people. As a result, have no time to think big and strategically.
• When the new engineering leader blames everything on “legacy technical issues.”
• 80% of “colleagues” don’t understand product management. The other 20% wrongly think that they understand it.
• In exec meetings, everyone wants to contribute ideas towards the larger goals. But none want to be held accountable for delivering the same ideas.
• Everyone in the organization, especially those who have never spoken to customers, believes their idea is the "best."
• Constant re-org, where every new leader blames the previous one and wants to do things “right once and for all.”
• UX/Design team taking 8 weeks for research and ideation, when it was agreed that speed is a higher priority than quality.
• Stakeholders who want us to deliver quicker because “if Google can do it, why can’t we?”
• People who are scared to make decisions, are against your decisions, and hence are ok to live in in-decision for the next 10 years.
• Engineers who think that product managers are wasting time and don’t know what they’re doing.
• A product team where no one takes the time to deprecate old shitty stuff to make room for the new.
• Working with CEO’s or senior leaders with no product and/or technical experience.
• Influencing people who don’t see value in customer research because they already "understand" the customers
• Motivating (read: handholding) others to do their work so we stay on track and deliver on time.
• Sales getting features prioritized so that they can close one small deal
• When you say “NO”, no one respects it, but the same people keep quoting Steve Jobs -
“People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are.“ - Steve Jobs

That is it. There is not a lot I hate 😜
What would you add to the list?

@JustAnotherPM Devs take care of the organization's model, it's expensive in terms of time and energy therefore reducing the cognitive time allocated to map business matters. They can be business savy over time but that's just not their priority. Same for design on the usability front.
@JustAnotherPM it's an attempt to build an agreement and understanding on something with a group (you are never entirely sharing your mental model with someone else). It can be goal settings, solutions, timing, quality criterion or a way of communicating with a client etc...
@benedictevans The issue with cars diversity is the heavy regulation aspect. We know how to make small efficient semi electric pods. But they are not allowed to be driven or only at a low speed limit making it useless compared to the regular cars.
@kn_neeraj@ttorres The best is to read and implement a lot of them. Talk to your engineers they will help as well. The second most important thing is to have good names for each concepts.
Bonjour à tous,
Comme certains d’entre vous le savent, j’explore certaines problématiques liées à l’e-commerce et surtout la livraison de colis (et surtout quand ça ne marche pas). Et oui, on ne se refait pas.

Loving that we're only at 9.30am in the UK but the first day of #mtpcon Digital #APAC is moving into it's final few sessions - it was an *early* morning! Massive shout out to my @MindtheProduct team for still looking so bright after a 2am start. Legends to the end. 🙌🚀🤓
@baptiste_rappin La cancel culture est elle le pendant mediatique des pratiques manageriales consistant à effacer / virer les personnes exprimant leur humanité et desirs non-alignés a celui de l’organisation ou de ses dirigeants?
