Commissioner Temple claims auto insurers are not profitable in Louisiana to justify gutting policyholders’ rights.
But it’s not true.
Louisiana ranks near the top in auto insurance profitability.
Yet, insurers continue to charge Louisianans the highest rates. #LaLege#LaGov
A bill introduced in the state House would require commercial health insurance plans to cover long-term treatment for brain injuries from falls, strokes, and diseases, without annual or lifetime caps.

My doctor, a board certified neurologist with over 20 years of experience believes I need an MRI.
But Frank, from Blue Cross Blue Shield, believes otherwise.
What a joke.
The headstone was finally placed on Brian Woodward’s grave in Newaygo. Brian is one of 15 we know of who have died because of the reform. On June 30, 2021 he was living in his own home, employed by the automotive industry and leading a full life with 24/7 care provided through auto no-fault. He was active in his church and choir, coached little league, went hunting and advocated for a fix to auto no-fault reform. On July 2, 2021 he was forced into a nursing home because his providers could not absorb the 45% cut to their reimbursements. #WeCantWaitMI
A Michigan home health care firm with 3,000 patients took on the care of a paralyzed 3-year-old girl in May 2021.
The owner thought the Legislature would scale back its 45% pay cut to companies like his. It didn't.
2.5 years later, he's $1.3M in arrears.

Bottom line, our state government is allowing auto insurers to sell junk policies, essentially. You cannot get the services you need after you experience a catastrophic accident. The post acute (after the hospital) has been decimated. Pay attention folks!
The stats are in for 2023, and we can’t say we are surprised. “Care provided by millions of unpaid family caregivers across the U.S. was valued at $600 billion in 2021, the new report estimates, a $130 billion increase in unpaid contributions from the 2019 report.”
@Earthling_001@GovWhitmer From the law itself- MCL 500.3157a(6):
"’utilization review’ means the initial evaluation by an insurer..of the appropriateness in terms of both the level and the quality of treatment, products, services, or accommodations provided”
It’s been used to deny doctor prescribed care
AUCHTER: "We have a state that more or less requires young people to own a reliable automobile to functionally live here and then burdens them with sky-high insurance rates."

@GovWhitmer I wanted you to see a picture of my friend, Brian Woodward, when he was happy and getting the care he needed to stay healthy. He died today because of the bill you signed, taking away his care. 8 nursing homes and 22 hospital visits in the last 2 years.#HeCouldntWait
Bryan died this morning.
Hours later, the Michigan High Court ruled that what Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) and the Republican-controlled legislature did to him was unconstitutional.
Profit over people.
Unconscionable.
“The Legislature needs to understand that its work is not done—they must pass a solution that protects the continuum of care. Our fight is not over until all crash survivors get the justice they deserve.”
- Tim Hoste, President @ProtectNoFault
“Brian Woodward was a fighter. He successfully fought to live a productive and fulfilling life despite the lifelong impact of his auto accident. He fought to be heard about the cruel injustices of Michigan’s auto reform law.”
“A fair and sustainable fee schedule will ensure that providers can keep their doors open while lowering costs by reducing delays and litigation. Brian was a hero to this cause, and we need to make sure he did not die needlessly.”
