My novel is basically fueled by the musical accompaniment of @Djawadi_Ramin. His music makes even my worst writing feel surpassingly poignant. If I'm ever lucky enough to option a movie, I desperately hope he'll compose the score.

1. A brief thought on the Battle of Winterfell vs. Tolkien's major battles. One of the cliches of writing about Game of Thrones is the idea that its darkness and violence and shades-of-gray characters are a departure from "classic fantasy," meaning by implication JRR.

9. For those who enjoy an action-figure romp through a reimagined feudal past on fantasy steroids, one with a surplus of blood and boobies, #GameofThrones may still be a great way to spend an hour with snacks. But I sympathize with those who feel betrayed by a story they loved.

1. I want to record my reaction to the Battle of Winterfell. I felt so deflated after watching it that it took me a day to articulate why the episode was so unsuccessful, and why that failure undermines so much other good storytelling the show has accomplished. #GameofThrones

8. For the record, the promise originally made wasn't the showrunners' promise--it was @GRRMspeaking 's, one he has so far failed to deliver on. And the scale of the task is enormous. But outpacing the books doesn't free the showrunners' from the promise they too undertook.
