@TJHannam10 Makes me scratch head everything I hear a coach say line up for timed 60 yd sprints. No where in the game do you run that far in a straight line. But have learned that coaches who can't run effective practices use running to kill time. This is not a track meet.
@Starting9_37_ Keep up the podcasts. They are awesome and yes it is a good thing you guys do. Some people just want to complain to complain because they are miserable. It's called the starting 937 not the starting southwest Ohio district. Duh
Time to share again as baseball conditioning is in full swing. Running distance & sprinting 4000+ ft does not make an athlete faster. Coaches that use this in a program use it because they refuse to learn and educate themselves on training athletes. Baseball = 90' sprints.
🔥 Sports are fast… you better train fast!!
🏁 Top 5 tips for young athletes to get fast
1. Sprint often. 1x per week isn’t enough. At least 2x. You need exposures to max intent sprinting several times per-week if you want to get faster. Also, don’t miss weeks. Speed de trains after only about 7 days
2. As I alluded to above: Intent is key. Fast reps are good reps. Sprint fast to get fast. Half a**ed reps will only get you so far. Try to move as fast as you can or don’t waste your time
3. Pick 1-2 mechanical components at MOST to fix. Then pick more. Don’t bog yourself down. Cuing improvement of more than 2 mechanical aspects is a sure fire way to make your brain explode. Also, outputs are a bit more important than pristine track mechanics if you play team sports. Prioritize outputs & just ensure a base level of mechanical proficiency
4. Get strong: when you’re young, adding strength is one of the easiest, low hanging fruits there is to speed development. Weak athletes will see big gains in their first year or two of strength training if it’s accompanied with the things above
5. Be patient: speed development takes time. Put the work in and allow yourself time to reap the gains. Don’t bounce from program to program or seek a quick fix if you don’t see IMMEDIATE improvement. If the program is good, trust it and let it work
High school coaches need to allow some time for athletes to refuel after the school day and before practice. School over at 2:15, practice at 2:30 cause YOU wanna go home. Athletes wanna go home too but yet they have to perform everyday for you. Take better care of your machines.
@mboyle1959 Perhaps the question should be are the parents listening along with their coaches who use scare tactics to force the player into one sport year round. Saying that as a coach you love multi sport athletes in emails & then telling players in meetings be at all my workouts or else.
