@KaufLovis Good point. Maybe an exception to this is building publicly: the founder’s transparency & vulnerability forms bonds with early users.
In contrast, early platforms that hint they’ve got it all figured out may unintentionally turn folks away.
Just now:
Me: “What did you feel when you first saw the homepage?”
Friend: “Overwhelmed.”
Me:
1. That’s a great friend
2. Immediately call co-founder to discuss “what is our core utility?” And “how can we simplify?”
We are only beginning to understand how to apply this power to solve the inequity and top-heavy control of today’s financial system. I think communities with native currencies are exciting and worth exploring today before they become normal.
Central authorities typically suck control, money, and time out of a system. They also are humans and can act unethically, often unintentionally. For the first time in human history, they are no longer needed for transactions thanks to blockchains, the backbone of Web3.
Another challenge: Customers don’t always have choice due to the consolidation of everything. I think for certain applications web3 will revolutionize this dilemma.
There is a third thing: customers. Customers can choose to only buy from companies they believe do not commit evil. This becomes complicated because of the complexity and lack of transparency and data availability in supply chains.
Instagram (Meta) shareholders want growth. TikTok is threatening that. Thus the TikTokization of Insta/everything. What if Meta shareholders were users (a community) that valued genuine experience and value over growth? Web3 enables this.
When innovating, “myths are abundant and exceptionally hard to eradicate”. This means it is critical that excitable founders surround themselves with highly logical, skeptical thinkers. I’m assembling my board of skeptics.
