On the 1st day of school, I pose a question to students: What does American History mean to you?
Their responses then serve as a launch point to begin discussions about who is in their drawings, but moreover, who is not. Waiting until 8th grade to be uncomfortable is too late.

Kindness isn’t weak. It takes courage to show kindness. It takes strength. It takes effort. It takes practice. It takes setting aside what’s easy for what’s valuable. Be kind...always.
“Maybe the key to improved learning and engaged students DOESN’T depend on access to new technologies or pedagogical strategies. Maybe it depends on remembering that kids are the most engaged when they feel appreciated.” @plugusin https://t.co/JwujvgwwXv

One of the best ways to add value in your school is to make others feel valued in your school. Don’t assume anyone knows their own remarkable worth. Look for chances to remind them they’re making a difference each day. #edchat#FutureDriven
