Wealth flight is anecdotal hyperbole, people who have established families, businesses and assets in the UK are not all going to up sticks and leave. If you own and massively profit passively from assets in the UK you should pay your fair share on those assets.

It sounds like the UK Labour Government have already decided that a Wealth Tax will be implemented.

They are now busy pumping the social media to get the policy popular enough so that it is applauded when it is inevitably introduced.

It's not a coincidence.

The problem with a wealth tax that takes 2% or whatever of the supposed "net worth" of a person is that the second order impacts are severe, and valuing intangible/volatile wealth in the form of things like stock is going to open a giant can of worms.

The net take of £24 Billion a year is <2% of the Government Budget and does not account for the impact of wealth flight or the downward pressure on UK Company valuations from owners having to sell stock.

Collecting the £24 Billion a year is a great headline if you ignore the 10x negative impact on the value of everyone's pensions and the UK Economy.

And it takes 21 £25k earners to generate the same tax revenue as ONE £150k earner
