@robkhenderson True. After a long career of striving, it is so obvious to me that love of others and deep connection to people are what gives meaning. Everything else, as the 70s song says, is dust in the wind.
@ctindale Hayek said totalitarianism growing from democracy would be worse than that which came from violent revolution. The former requires voluntary submission from a majority of citizens, which gives the leaders unlimited credibility.
@Handre Your facts might be correct but your conclusion is a bit broad. Have you accounted for all differences in America & Europe in this period? Or did Curtiss have a bad lawyer etc?.
Patents can help small businesses raise $$. Inventions separated from capital don’t do much at all.
@Chris_arnade@ingelramdecoucy Could have also been written of Birmingham. I grew up in Atlanta which prided itself on distribution and then moved to Bhm in the 80s where pride was in making things. Over the years I came to prefer the latter.
@allenmendenhall Author says a lot which is good. Hayek’s simple diagnosis still rings true: our fault arises from government’s expansion of its powers and spending, made possible by unlimited paper money tied to nothing.
@ARC_Conference@mobbs_mentality “the story is mightier than both the pen and the sword”
You should run with this and write stories to spread your message about the greatness of American freedom. Happy 4th
@kalanihakoi "Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:" - Isaiah 40:4
@kalanihakoi A condition of complete simplicity
(Costing not less than everything)
And all shall be well and
All manner of thing shall be well
When the tongues of flame are in-folded
Into the crowned knot of fire
And the fire and the rose are one.
@buttonslives Small steps are best. First might be accepting there is a moral order. From there it’s not too far from the existence of God. Better to go at your pace not someone else’s.
