@triciaebarvia Can you please share a link to one of your rubrics? I’m curious to see how it aligns with my own. I use 6 Traits as the categories but change the success criteria based on the type of writing (narrative, argument, etc.)
You don’t have to watch the video of #TyreNichols being beaten by police.
You don’t have to subject yourself to that trauma.
It should not require another video of a Black human being dehumanized for anyone to understand that police brutality is an urgent, devastating issue.
Check out my classroom on @DonorsChoose! I'd love your help to bring my project to life - use promo code LIFTOFF at checkout to double your donation up to $50: https://t.co/WU4AnivMZw
@Mr_Rablin This is brilliant!! You have just scrapped my plans for Day 1, and I can’t be more excited! I plan to revamp the questions but use your foundation as my guide. Thanks for the inspiration!
BTW do you give a “prize” or is it simply the pride of accomplishment?
@amachson@kwamealexander Use the video of @kwamealexander reading aloud - he explains why he uses words like pulchritudinous in the story. Also talks about the “soon to be released” prequel (which causes many kids to pursue Rebound as their next read).
@amachson@kwamealexander I created a PowerPoint of the book to project as I read aloud so students can see how the poems appear on the page. We spend time diving into author’s craft as there are endless things to observe and then for kids to imitate in their own writing.
@Gisseppii @scalzi We can be on the right side of history (because the good/bad, write/wrong has been determined), but we have to check ourselves for current events. I’m fortunate in that I work at a school that promotes social justice in everything we do.

@Gisseppii @scalzi Rarely with teachers? We are constantly told what we are / are not allowed to talk about. It’s an unwritten (and often written) rule that you are to remove your political view, which is unrealistic in so many situations.

@SurthrivEDU I’m right there with you. My classroom is also #PointLess, but within a district that deals in points and percentages (yet proclaims itself equitable). We are constant works in progress.
