@aravosis Thing is, not only is Platner going to lose this seat, he's going to be a distraction for all other Democratic Senate candidates nationwide, and reduce all of their chances of winning, too. In that sense, he doesn't resist Trump, he empowers him.
@Boston9781 That in particular doesn't necessarily make him a neo-Nazi, but his past social media posts describe someone that is most likely confused and searching for some sort of identity to grab on to. Not exactly a strong track record for a Senate candidate!
@Boston9781 I know a lot of veterans. Not one of them dealt with their trauma by "canoeing," which means firing rounds into a dead person's skull until it splits open at the top like a canoe, as Graham Platner bragged about on Reddit.
@jamandabop@treeaston Policy concessions like "turn our backs on a longtime ally for defending themselves from terrorist attacks by a far-, far-right theocracy a little to aggressively"? There's a reason why that was a concession that would (and never will) be granted by either party.
@capitolhunters@_rotimia He's also overlooking the fact that, since all politics are national, Platner could very well be a net loss for Democrats nationally. Being associated with someone like him will be a distraction come election time, and cost Democrats votes elsewhere, even if he eeks out ME.
@JoePostingg All politics are national these days. And having Platner associated with the party will be a national drag on the entire Democratic ticket across the nation. So finding a replacement quick is the best way to guarantee the Democrats regain Senate control.
@ianbremmer Unfortunately, unlike nuclear weapons, it's much easier to cheat on whatever AI agreement the countries come up with. How do you monitor compliance?
@ThomKMcCarty@arash_tehran That report specifically does not attribute the cause of those deaths to the US. In fact, the vast majority of those deaths were caused by civil wars started by Iran in their quest for regional influence. Iran loudly brags about the power of their proxy militias. Why do you deny?
@ThomKMcCarty@arash_tehran Source for US deaths? For Iranian proxy militias, we have 1 million in the Iraq civil war, 400,000 in Yemen, and 600,000 helping Assad in Syria. Why do you hate Arabs?
@ThomKMcCarty@arash_tehran Even if that definition of Zionism were correct (which it isn't), Israel is still the most left-wing country in the Middle East by a mile. You should ask yourself why you're carrying water for the world's most repressive far-right-wing governments.
@ThomKMcCarty@arash_tehran Israel is the most left-wing country in the Middle East, by far, even after what Netanyahu has done to it. Constructive criticism is fine, but arguing that it shouldn't exist would advance the goals of far, far right theocratic, patriarchical states like Iran.
@conorsen The end of history. Today's political behavior--on both sides--is mostly not born out of real strife; it is born out of the boredom of an incredibly materially comfortable existence that nevertheless provides people's lives with little existential meaning.
@dszeligowski Ukraine should instead fly drones over the Moscow parade and drop leaflets to the onlookers saying, "Bang! Despite the theatrics of this parade, your leaders can't protect you!"
