Today is my 40th birthday. Here are all the things that I know at 40 which I wish I knew at 20.
Starting with…
1. Your relationship with others is a direct reflection of your relationship with yourself. If you treat yourself poorly, then you will unconsciously seek out and tolerate others who treat you poorly. If you treat yourself with dignity and respect, then you will only tolerate others who treat you with dignity and respect.
Get right with yourself. Get right with the world.
I recently read Same as Ever by @MorganHousel.
It was a phenomenal read packed full of timeless wisdom.
Here are 25 of my favorite quotes from the book:
4 Truth-Bombs:
1. If you can't say "no," then your "yeses" are meaningless
2. They will respect you as much as you respect yourself
3. Hard work is only useful if you've found an area where you have an advantage
4. Enjoy stillness and you'll never be bored a day in your life
The main message of The Magic of Thinking Big: don't overestimate others and underestimate yourself. I still read the first two chapters whenever doubt creeps in.
It's not enough to remove life's niggly minutiae that are bothering you—you need a compelling big goal. You need an inspiring, abnormally large objective to chase.
The most useful skill I developed when I was young, without even realizing it, is a complete and utter willingness to embarrass myself.
If you’re okay looking like an idiot, you become unstoppable.
