More than ever with Twitter dying, please download Watch Duty app to keep track of fires. You can choose which counties to monitor. Just got an alert for a fire near by grandmother who is 98 and lives alone. Was able to call and give her a heads up. Recommend.
Calling volunteers, we’re expanding outside of California! We’ve already begun onboarding radio scanners and reporters from Oregon, Washington, and Nevada but we still need more to cover the entire American West. https://t.co/sT77TbvVPO
A key task these days is to keep reminding that there are alternative options for our digital ecosystem, and offer new possibilities. This @AdaLovelaceInst report on power and data does just that. Chapeau (ht @pa_wela) https://t.co/zHodrRjYtU
I first started using Twitter because my friend was missing in the Haiti Earthquake. Back then people were using hashtags and geolocating to do real, actual, important stuff on here™️
@SamLMontano@seismogenic A local emergency account tweeted in the middle of the night about a house fire at my friends multi-unit building. I called him, waking him up just before firefighters got to his unit to evacuate.
Have used it to monitor countless fires, storms, floods, and even tsunamis
@SamLMontano Relayed contact info of people in need of rescue to first responders during Hurricane Harvey, Typhoon Haiyan, Nepal earthquakes, and many more.
We need any and all available remote volunteers to help take calls for @CrisisCleanup!
They're expecting 10,000 calls TODAY ALONE from Ian survivors needing help!
Email [email protected] and we'll get you set up.
Just need a phone and kindness.
