And let's be honest about how we got here: Amodei has spent months marketing Mythos as uniquely dangerous, and warning AI will eat every job, positioning himself as the lone responsible adult in the AI industry. Turns out the government was taking notes.
The Fable/Mythos foreign-national ban is going to gut Anthropic internally, non-citizen researchers can't touch training, evals, or model tooling until this is resolved. A huge share of frontier AI talent is foreign.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

@AnthropicAI Anthropic asked for it. The CEO kept digging his own grave, constantly hyperventilating about “mythos,” a cybersecurity threat, glass and silicon this and that, everything under the sun. Look where it took them 😅
@SANatalSA@JekapOmod Irrelevant rumblings from an Eritrean pest. That is why I don't always want to engage with the likes of you. You and your kind have no clue other than to keep changing the topic without addressing the one in discussion.
@SANatalSA@JekapOmod When it comes to poverty and lack of dignity, nothing matches Eritrea. It's at the bottom of the pit, ahead of every other country in the race to the bottom
@SANatalSA@JekapOmod Actually it's the opposite. In Eritrea, a dozen aspirin tablets are treated like gold. Formal health facilities are almost nonexistent in cities, let alone rural areas. Not sure which Eritrea you're picturing, but Ethiopia has left it in the dust.
@RnaudBertrand "Money isn't identity" is easy to say when you've never had to skip a meal to pay rent. For those fighting to survive, wealth isn't a philosophical question. it is oxygen. Only the privileged get to romanticize poverty. When survival is the question, "money isn't meaning"?
@addisstandard@EpdnSFOak Your funders don't practice democracy but they pay you to harass the leaders of your own nation. A useful "battering ram" is what you are.
@zehabesha@NattyHabesha You are an embarrassment to your own people. You take money from your own country's strategic adversaries and you want to be taken seriously?
@Subresident763@JillSAnthony@georgeregnery Going forward we might have to consider cooking and consuming fellow humans, there are awfully a lot of us. The planet might benefit.
@JillSAnthony@apocalypseos Among the earliest symptoms of imperial decline is the rising cost of fundamental necessities, with food prices often becoming prohibitively high.
Genius. Really thought that one through. Nothing screams security like crippling energy routes and triggering worldwide chao. European leaders are the best!
"Is the world safer today than it was before the war was started?"
Secretary-General of NATO, Mark Rutte: "Absolutely, and this is thanks to President Trump's leadership"
"I don't know who voted for this guy. He has the charisma of a piece of cardboard that's been rotting in the street".
