Will definitely use this line from now if some westerner insists Alexander "defeated" King Paurava:

"LOL - your greatest conqueror in history shat his pants after barely defeating one of our random minor kings, and his army morale dropped so hard, it made him cry like a baby."

Btw, this king was so random and minor, he is not even mentioned in Indian sources.

- And he retained his kingdom after the war with Alexander.

- Not only that, Porus' kingdom was significantly expanded west after the war.

- Which was all annexed by Chandragupta Maurya later after Porus. Not the Greeks or their satraps.

- And Alexander forces mutinied declining to march further east.

My strong belief is that Greek sources made the defeat into "hard fought win", Porus retaining the kingdom into "Alexander reinstated him", and Porus expanding his kingdom significantly to the west as "Alexander gifted Porus land."

Only a fool will do all these. These claims (most of them conflicting even in Greek sources) were cherry picked and made into facts by modern western scholars for they could not accept a minor Indian king with his war elephants defeated Alexander.

Indian sources do not talk anything about this Alexander's war to the west of Indus not because they weren't recording (so many other great Indian literature was being created long before and around that time). But because the war was so minor by Indian standards and the invader was chased away quickly.
