Mayo Clinic researchers have developed an innovative computational tool that analyzes the gut microbiome, a complex ecosystem of trillions of bacteria, fungi, viruses and other microorganisms, to provide insights into overall well-being.

Our latest tool, the Gut Microbiome Wellness Index2, is now out in @NatureComms. Fantastic work led by @danielchang2002 & @vinodgupta299! GMWI2 is a disease-agnostic indicator of gut health that quantifies disease likelihood from a gut microbiome sample.

Sharing our latest work with @MdWarrington in @ARD_BMJ! We used @SomaLogic proteomics to identify blood protein patterns in active and inactive Giant Cell Arteritis. Sights are now set to develop and validate ML-based multiplex biomarker panels for GCA!🚀

Applications now open for CLEAR-AD Diversity Scholars! This 2-yr opportunity for early career scientists seeks to increase representation of African American & Latin American scientists in #Alzheimers research. Scholars will receive$25k/yr.

Mayo Clinic in Rochester has once again been named the #1 hospital in the world by @Newsweek in their 2024 rankings. Thank you to our exceptional staff who remain committed to our primary value of putting patients’ needs first. https://t.co/i6TGDVbBwu #WorldsBestHospitals
@Cristoforo0o Having shown success in the phase I trial, we are now gearing up for phase 2 studies, including a larger, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled studies to further explore the gut microbiome's role in aiding recovery in the ICU.
New paper in @BMCMedicine: We report #GutMicrobiome results from a phase I clinical trial on the potential of kefir (a fermented dairy drink rich in probiotics) to improve #GutHealth in critically ill patients in the #IntensiveCareUnit (ICU). #ICUResearch

@Cristoforo0o "Still it would be very cool if future analysis showed a protective effect." Exactly! We advocate for considering the gut microbiome during ICU recovery. Utilizing (fermented) dietary means, such as kefir, to counteract gut dysbiosis in the ICU is definitely the long-term goal.
At the ☀️Mayo Clinic FL campus to attend the first annual meeting for CLEAR-AD, an NIH U19 consortium to identify #biomarkers and therapeutic targets for #Alzheimers Disease. Wonderful to have @DrNErtekinTaner lead us off with this morning’s welcoming remarks.
Identifying GCA diagnosis and disease activity through proteomics from plasma:
diagnosis looks good
disease activity looks harder
(Much like a lot of things in GCA, really)
Exciting work @MayoClinic@MdWarrington@jsung0906#ACR23 ABST2601 @RheumNow
#ACR2023@ACRheum is well under way in San Diego! ☀️ Presenting a talk on our giant cell arteritis proteomics research with #MayoClinicRheumatology colleague and friend @MdWarrington at the #Vasculitis session Wed 11/15 11am Room 33A-C. If around, please stop by to say hello 😀👋
How do we measure if a certain diet is beneficial for YOU? Exploring this in my talk today on our Gut Microbiome Wellness Index 2 at the Food Science and Nutrition Dept. at U MN Twin-Cities. Hoping to brainstorm with colleagues on precision diet methods for a healthier lifestyle.
