In 1975, the Uganda Shilling was officially pegged to the US Dollar at a rate of approximately 7.5 UGS per $1 USD.
• 1975 Value: 250 \text{ UGS} \div 7.5 \approx \mathbf{\$33.33 \text{ USD}}
• Adjusting for US Inflation (1975–2024): $33.33 in 1975 has the same purchasing power as approximately $200.00 USD today.
• Current Conversion: At today’s exchange rate (~3,850 UGX per $1 USD), $200.00 is worth roughly 770,000 UGX.

2. Local Purchasing Power (Wage/Goods Method)
To understand what that money felt like to a Ugandan in 1975, we can look at local wages and prices:
• Wages: In 1975, a primary school teacher (Grade III) earned about 500 Shillings per month. Therefore, 250 Shillings was exactly half a month's salary. Today, a similar teacher earns roughly 500,000 UGX, making the equivalent value about 250,000 UGX.
