5 ways to solve a problem - part5
Talk to someone who is willing to listen.
Talking outloud helps me think clearly.
I may also get another perspective I hadn't considered.
I find it helpful to state the purpose of the conversation: brainstorming? venting? seeking guidance?
5 ways to solve a problem - part 4
Research what other's have done.
Odds are someone else has dealt with this exact problem & has solved it. I check YouTube, Reddit etc
Be specific when searching for answers. There is a lot of content out there & it is easy to get distracted.
5 ways to solve a problem - part 3
Detach from the problem.
I pick from the following:
- A walk
- Playtime with my dog
- Take a shower
- Sleep: nap or for the night
A refresh is always helpful. I can come back to my work with fresh energy & perspective.
I used to believe underpreparing was better than overpreparing. Overpreparing was a waste of time & energy.
What was I saving for? Nothing important.
Now I see the value of putting in heaps of effort.
More reps, more practice, more volume!
Thanks @AlexHormozi for sharing.
5 ways to solve a problem - part 2
Ask myself questions.
How does this impact me?
How does this impact my team?
What does success look like?
What happens in the worst case scenario?
What are the components of the problem?
What's the next step?
This helps me be creative.
You can't always be in peak mental states.
Making decisions in weak mental states will be damaging over time.
Safegaurd your time & mental energy by:
- Work on your priorities first
- Practice identifying when your mental state is weak
- Take breaks proactively
5 ways to solve a problem - part 1
I like to capture my thoughts with pen & paper.
Why?
1. No formatting issues: The only constraints are my imagination & the page.
2. Screen free: No apps, ads or notifications to distract me.
3. Slow pace: Writing slows down my thoughts.
Generally, I am a conservative person & I used to avoid failure but now I believe:
- Worthwhile goals require the risk of failure
- Sometimes you must learn through failure
- Not taking action can be the biggest failure
What are you doing that risks failing?
My method to be less distracted: remove triggers.
- Leave my phone out of sight while working.
- Unfollow social media accounts that distract me.
- Mute notifications across all my platforms.
- Avoid people that drain my energy.
NTS: Everything influences you.
Most days I feel depleted of energy when I go to bed, I like that feeling.
But this depends if I have spent my energy wisely.
What is something you're glad you spent your limited energy on today?
@namipatelX I love your take on this.
Money was the starting point. It's still early days however I already feel my thoughts & energy are being channeled for my own growth. It feels great.
Now that I think about it I do feel emotionally richer.
Thanks Nami π
I used to treat money with scarcity.
Yes, this helped me save but I didn't utilise money.
Now I can use money to:
- outsource tasks & save time
- make my living space more convenient
- fast track my learning with books & apps
You have a daily limit of mental energy.
Remove decisions from mundane tasks.
Every morning I make a fruit and veg smoothie, it's nutritious & delicious.
Save your energy for important tasks.
When striving for new goals I learn & change my identity.
I find it challenging to make the new habits stick. My old thought patterns are still in my head, my old identity persists. My new identity is slowly forming.
What values & actions form your identity?
