Malique Lewis has shown improvement throughout his season with the Mexico City Capitanes, playing his way firmly onto the 2024 NBA draft radar.
The 19-year-old slashing wing has an advanced feel for the game: offensively, he possesses great anticipation and timing as a cutter, ranking in the 82nd percentile scoring off cuts, per Synergy. Around the rim, he’s shown flashes of advanced finishes through traffic, and has improved as the season has progressed, up to 63.8% (73rd percentile) at the rim on the year.
The most crucial development has been the jumper. After shooting 25.0% from three in the Showcase portion of the G-League calendar, Lewis is shooting 37.4% from three in the regular season, including 41.9% from the corners. He can leverage this against the defense, attacking closeouts and reading the defense getting downhill.
Defensively, his combination of processing/instincts, athleticism, and length (6’11” wingspan) allows him to make high-level helpside plays as a rim protector. He’s capable of containing opposing wings both on and off the ball, and is averaging over a steal and block per game.
Malique is a name to keep an eye on as a potential late-riser in this class.
The NBA granted the injury-riddled Grizzlies another hardship roster spot and franchise plans to sign Brazilian F Maozinha Pereira on a 10-day contract, sources tell ESPN. Pereira has averaged 10.8 points and 8.8 rebounds for Mexico City of the G League.
Malique Lewis from the @CapitanesCDMX should be skyrocketing up draft boards over the next few months.
The Trinidad & Tobago native just turned 19 in November and has posted back to back 20 point performances. Lewis also secured his first double-double in his 3rd G League game.

I think the NBA has gone too far with all of the jerseys and court changes. Need to pull back and dig back in on consistent team identity. It’s already tough for fans to keep up with all the player movement and now there’s no consistent team identity when you turn on games.
Awesome opportunity for undergrad students. Literally anything from @CuseAnalytics is a goldmine & here’s the chance to work with NBA level data from @SIS_Hoops. Can’t recommend it enough ⬇️⬇️
@DaveDuFourNBA@AthleticNBAShow@SethPartnow@MoDakhil_NBA What’s the next evolution of NBA basketball and how will that impact values of certain archetypes of players?
Example: does the increased emphasis on offensive rebounding this year give more playoff viability to athletic non-shooters that they previously might not have had?
