@ConfCommandos Is there anyone close enough to Dabo to have this conversation with him and have him acknowledge these issues/facts --> enough to effect some change(s) in his approach?
@DrDiGiorgio@EdGainesIII Hopefully @LorenAdler will respond to this. This initiative seems to be an insignificant in the broad context/goal of lowering healthcare costs in this country. Any practical solution should include focusing on hospital vertical integration. 340B, site neutrality, etc.
@JoshuaBarzon Hart County GA should be in the same region (GS6) with adjacent Elbert County GA and Anderson County SC. Maybe even Franklin County GA. Would not put in Hart County in GS7.
If you don’t lock in Original Medicare + a Medigap supplement during your one-time 6-month window when you first become eligible, you may never be able to get it later. Choose Medicare Advantage instead and, in most states, Medigap insurers can reject you for preexisting conditions (or ones you develop) if you try to switch back.
Seniors I talk to almost universally don’t understand this and are enticed into Medicare Advantage plans with lower monthly premium sales pitch.
They also don’t realize Advantage plans typically have higher medical copays than Original Medicare + Medigap Plan G. MA plans also apply much tighter management (prior auth + step therapy) to Part B drugs like chemo and infusions.
@EthanATaub@DrDiGiorgio The best part about private practice is that I never have to answer a coding query. And guess what...every other medical provider has no problem understanding/interpretating what the assessment and plan says.
@policywishes@DocLibertarian The problem is when you get sick. Medigap plans cover the 20% co-insurance so you have $0 out of pocket. MA plans don’t cover the 20% until you’ve met the yearly deductible/OOP max, so you’re on the hook thousands of dollars until MA pays the 20%. See it everyday in my office.
@PaleoOnc Some folks are unfortunately petty. I recall when @CoffeeBlackMD blocked me for engaging in a good faith inquiry about his complaints about oncology not rounding in the hospital, which I found hard to believe - if the oncology team was actually aware of the admission
@PaleoOnc@OneOncology We practice in the upstate/Greenville area (Anderson), but there is an OO office in Myrtle beach and Charleston (Lowcountry Oncology Assoc). Live on DI. Sounds like a great way to finish up career!
#CommunityOncology’s high-quality, personalized approach to #PatientCare means more time celebrating life’s important milestones with loved ones. Research shows patients with certain cancers had better outcomes in local practices vs. national benchmarks. https://t.co/yMMwKcJE0s
@molsjames@shycollie the renal cell patients with excellent responses to IO-TKI regimens, the myeloma patients with miraculous responses to bispecifics, the HER2+ breast cancer patients on Enhertu (antibody-drug conjugate). Etc Etc. These folks are so grateful for the progress in cancer therapy (2/2
@molsjames@shycollie Most patients tell you that they feel better with untreated (and therefore progressive) cancer than patient who receive treatment with treatment response? Tell that to the small cell lung cancer patients who have complete responses to chemo-IO regimens, (1/n)
@sandman30624@shycollie@molsjames Be specific and I'll provide statistics as best possible. Which tumor type? Which stage? There are different regimens for different disease and different contexts.
@LighthouseDPC The margin gets exorbitant at hospital based infusion. Better care at lower cost is the private practice model. Not sure why your other posts have advocated ongoing infusion at hospital-based infusion? 2/2.
@LighthouseDPC This entire post is an argument FOR infusions at private oncology offices, not against. Payors reimburse private docs LESS than hospital infusion centers, not taking into account "facility fees". Then when you factor in 340B acquisition prices (for qualifying hospitals), 1/n
@LighthouseDPC Why would we do that. Are you not an advocate for independent practice and improving the cost of healthcare in this country? Look at this study. https://t.co/HAPt3kWh4y. It's better for the patient, physician, payor, the entire system to infuse at private offices.
"For hospitals eligible for 340(B) discounts, each Keytruda patient was associated with $102,680 in annual revenue..."
Compared to: $67,825 at non-340B hospitals and $3,094 at physician practices.
@JackPatrick06@Kseries51091799@Pelicanwayre@Hyliion Still short ? What’s the proper valuation of this company ? Cash value ? 2x cash? 0.5x cash? Maybe you short them back towards cash value but I don’t think they’re going bankrupt anytime soon. And at these low share prices and volatility, you might get caught short.
@HEALTHCOSTtruth We should get you to help market our practice and other @OneOncology practices to employers to show the coast savings of private oncology care.
Having poor experience with @UHC. Waiting for a P2P today. My office calls to check. They claim we missed the call and won’t reschedule. Says we have to appeal. Outright lie. Will pull phone records to prove. And file complaint with @scdoi. @EPotterMD any other suggestions?
