In any central institute, be it IIT/NIT/IIM, if you're caught cheating in the exam hall, a UMC file is prepared for it. The student is made to fill out a form, and their statement is recorded. If caught cheating with a phone, photos are taken and a proper evidence file is prepared along with the form and sent to the exam controller, and the student is given a fresh answer sheet at that time.

Later, a meeting is held in which the student gets a chance to present their side, and only after that is any action taken.

If @iitbombay is claiming that he was cheating in the exam using ChatGPT on his phone, then they should show his UMC file. Otherwise, this would just be a way of dodging the issue and covering it up.
