Cooler days are ahead! This week, elevations above 10,000 feet could see some snow. Did you know that 80 percent of Colorado’s precipitation occurs on the West Slope, mostly in the form of snow? Water is then brought to the East Slope via the Colorado-Big Thompson Project.

June brings a surge of water down the Colorado River. The Coordinated Reservoir Operations program is a collaborative effort between @DenverWater, @aurorawater, CO Springs Utilities, Northern Water and @usbr to coordinate the release of water to improve the river's ecosystem.
The Colorado Big Thompson project consists of six hydropower plants, three pumping plants, 12 reservoirs, 35 miles of tunnels, 95 miles of canals and 800 miles of transmission lines. Overall, the project spans 150 miles east to west and 65 miles from north to south.
